Carol Burnett is brilliant in the film. I don't think she's too old to do it on stage, Hannigan doesn't have to be a certain age. In fact, if she's played a little bit older, it might be kind of scarier and far more depressing. I just don't think she'd ever do it.
Andrea McArdle should NOT be Hannigan...that's terrible casting.
And Nathan Lane as Warbucks? Talk about miscast.....
The lane remark was a joke
I can see Rosie as a grown up orphan singing It's A Hard Knock Life
The clip is from one of Rosie's family cruises and can't really be used as a measuring stick of how she would perform if she was playing the role on Broadway. That clip is not to be taken seriously...I mean Seth Rudetsky is one of the orphans lol
I think the best casting choice for Hannigan at this point would be Jan Maxwell. She's brilliant in everything, and she has perfect comic timing.
Rosie would be better as Rooster than Hannigan...
I like Rosie as an activist and a cruise ship director, but when I saw the title to this thread, I was like, "No no no no no NO!"

Munkustrap, as much as you say that "Andrea McArdle should NOT be Hannigan...that's terrible casting", I can see producers doing it. To have the *original* Annie, now play Hannigan, would be a marketing dream. People have wanted Andrea to play the role for a long time, and she has played the role in regional productions. I have no idea what the performance was like, but people loved the idea.
I'm wondering if they get a "star" if they would include the song written for Nell Carter, "You Make Me Happy" as a duet with Grace? The only way I can see the production using this song is if a "star" is cast. Although, I don't know much Hunter Foster and Jen Cody would feel about that...
There are way too many talented actresses who should be considered before Rosie. Did you people forget her heinous television special that became all about her and not her guests?!
Andrea McArdle is NOT a character actress and I don't see her in the role either.
I'd love to see Jenny Galloway as Miss. Hannigan.

I actually DID forget until you mentioned it. Now it's come screeching back to me.

I just remember Jane Krakowski doing a number telling everyone in the live audience about all the crap they were getting.

She was doing that way back when she had her talk show. She had the nerve to get up and sing(?) and dance(?) to "Chim Chim Cheree" and then on the very last note, Dick Van Dyke came out (he didn't sing or dance). She then proceeded to spend the whole interview telling DvD how much her kid loved Mary Poppins. This is a man who has done work on Broadway, tv and movies and all she could talk about was her kid.
Just have a gander at youtube clips of Dorothy Loudon doing Easy Street. Rosie doesn't have an ounce of style. Baranski is an obvious choice in my mind. Mary Louise Wilson. Vanessa Williams for sure. But who wants to play second or third banana to a kid?

With the right billing, it could land you a Tony.

Rosie in ANYTHING would keep me away. You would have to pay me.

Would they please make the right choice and cast Mary Testa as Miss Hannigan? This show doesn't need a "name" to sell tickets. The show's title will do that.
No Rosie. Please, no Rosie!
"Andrea McArdle should NOT be Hannigan...that's terrible casting. "
I'm indifferent to this casting decision, but it should be noted that she is showing serious interest in taking the role, and her people are pushing for it. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens.
Well her people haven't been too successful getting her another Broadway gig since Beauty and the Beast (i.e., Mamma Mia).

Andrea is playing it in NC as we chat...she is looking pretty good contrary to what people say... She is 40 years old-old enough for Miss Hannigan.
Dorothy Loudon was not old when she played the role, which she won a tony for (even though she was the supporting actress and she bascially stole the award from Andrea the STAR of the show)
Andrea would sell tickets for the fact people would want
to see her flip the script....
I think Andrea McArdie should do it..it be great closure for the show. BUt I second Jenny Galloway OMG I have heard and seen so many Madame Thernardiers and she was the best of all of them...by a mile. She has the vulgarity and crudeness for the role. Jenny Galloway as Miss Hannigan... I like it!

1st night and shw is pretty good....with more play she would be great...once she relaxed into the role

Beth would be my first choice, too.
And Cerveris for Warbucks! Nah, he'd never do it.
