The second half of "Grey Gardens" was one of the most amazing things I've seen in a long time--unfortunately, the show also has a first act and it's nowhere near the level of the rest of the show.
"Spring" excited and moved me throughout.

orangeskittles, I think you'll survive. Take your complaining to a thread that deserves it, please.
The reason I posted this thread was because Rosie has been a great supporter of Broadway, not just this year but in many years past. Hell, she's hosted the Tonys a few times. So, I thought people would be interested in hearing who she thought the Tony would go to. Obviously they were if the thread has now reached 4 pages.
So, apparently, Jane2, they do care!
And I agree with Rosie. When I saw Spring Awakening, I knew absolutely nothing about it. I had never heard a single note from it, which is strange for me. I've usually always bought and memorized the entire cast recording beforehand. But this didn't stop me from having an incredible experience at SA. I loved every second of it. And I suppose since I AM young, it makes me excited to see that young people are able to portray such a great work in such a profound and artful way. I loved it, and hope to see it again.
Now, that being said, I have not seen any of the other nominated musicals. I had some close friends see Mary Poppins, and they loved it. So who knows? Nobody knows who will win except for the people who write it out on the envelope.
But I hope Rosie is right, as she usually is with all her opinions

I really hope SA wins. I agree with what was said a while back, I take GREY GARDENS to be a mediocre show with a talented cast.
I've been listening to SA ever since it came out, and I have to tell you, none ofhte lyrics have ever truly stuck out and made me think, "What the hell was he thinking?" I mean, My Junk is the only one that I think is overall 'eh'. The only thing that ALWAYS bothers me is -
"Well, you’ll have to excuse me, I know it’s so off.
I love when you do stuff that’s rude and so wrong."
THAT was a mistake, haha.

You know you have a gem of songwriting on your hands when no one can ever agree what the most ear gougingly terrible lyric is. Yet everyone's opinion seems valid enough.

SA does have a few...corny lines.
But I think the greatness (is that a word?) of the show as a whole makes up for the fact that a few of the lines were less than brilliant.

"Anyways we all know Spring Awakening is going to win."
Didn't "we all know" that Wicked would win 3 years ago?

haha, thank you Albin :)
yeah, i wouldnt go and say SPRING AWAKENING is going to win Best Musical just yet.
MARY POPPINS does have a strong chance of an upset, given the new Playbill article talking about how a tour is in the works for 2008, and how they'd rework the sets and stuff.
And as FOAnatic said, now that GREY GARDENS is touring as well with Ebersole, it also has a small chance (a rather small one) of pulling an upset. But I'd like that small chance to turn into a Best Musical win come Sunday :)

Grey Gardens isn't touring with Ebersole. Ebersole is doing the show on the West End.
And yes, three years ago, everyone thought Wicked would win as well. Who knows what will happen on Tony Sunday?

Posted: 6/8/07 at 2:46pmWho's attacking? You, as well as Rosie, are an unabashed fan of Spring Awakening. I didn't mean it in a negative way, only that it's not a revolutionary announcement to know what her preference is.

"So, apparently, Jane2, they do care! "
Well, that's clear-many of you on BWW care a lot about what Rosie thinks.
I simply wanted to post my opinion on the topic.

Grey Gardens isn't touring with Ebersole. Ebersole is doing the show on the West End.
The Playbill article stated that she was indeed taking the show to the West End. And then she was going out on tour with it.

I believe this year there is a possible upset....
I believe that any of the shows except Mary Poppins have a chance at winning.
I think Spring awakening could win and is maybe the most fan adored show that has a following.
I think that Grey Gardens takes traditional musical theatre and meshes it with something new and different
and
I think that Curtains is a Wonderful Traditional Musical that holds true to what OLD Broadway from the 50's use to be.
At this point It all depends on what kind of crowd is voting and what their real preference is.
This year I think is going to be all over the board and there will be many different winners as opposed to one show that will take the lot.

You don't think Mary Poppins has a chance at winning? Honestly, I think that's the one most likely to pull and upset. Any reason why you disagree?
FOA- Unless there was another article, I don't think she is. I found this in the article where they announced the tour:
"A casting search has already begun to find other stars to play the leading dual role of Edith Bouvier Beale/"Little" Edie Beale. Ebersole's year-long contract with the Broadway production will end in October 2007, and her Broadway replacement is now being sought. It hasn't been determined if Ebersole will be playing any U.S. markets."

Posted: 6/9/07 at 2:56amI think Mary Poppins will take the award.

Wonderfulwizard...I believe the "search" they're referrng to is for a Broadway replacement.
I distinctly remember reading somewhere that Ebersole was taking the show on tour.
I'll try to find it.

Posted: 6/9/07 at 11:35amOne of my good friends, who was a broadway leading man in a successful show, said that Spring Awakening is EASILY the best show to hit Broadway in the past 20 years. After seeing he said that he finally understood what all the hype was about and cannot understand how anybody does not find the show absolutely amazing. He was also telling me that he spoke to a friend of his who knows a lot of the Tony voters. She said that many of them were struggling to give the vote to SA due to its possible struggle with touring, but that they would most likely vote for it because it is BY FAR the best show of the season.

Skittles, one of my friend's mother's hairdresser's cousin's next-door neighbor is Stephen Sondheim.
And, apparently, after seeing SPRING AWAKENING he's decided to quit the theatre entirely because he felt he could never write something as brilliant.

Of course FOA! Who could ever try to live up to the brilliance that is Spring Awakening?
