Rules for reselling at theatre

Sorry if there's a thread for this, I couldn't pull up anything using the search.

What are the rules for reselling tickets outside the theatre for shows on Broadway?  I have tickets for Aladdin tonight, but one child in our group is feeling unwell and might not be able to attend, and one adult would stay in the hotel with her, so we have a couple tickets that might be extra.  But we won't know for sure until close to showtime, so I figure the best way to sell them will be in person at the theatre.  Is this allowed?  What are the rules?  Or is there a chance I could return them to the box office?

Thanks for any advice.

There are no rules, really.  Re-selling is perfectly legal in NY.   Often, I just see people walking around saying, " I've got two tickets for tonight"

Since this isn't particularly difficult ticket to get, I'm not sure how successful you will get.   I'm FAIRLY certain, that if you give the to the box office, you won't receive the money from the resale.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I agree with dramamama.  For hot shows, I recommend selling the ticket first to the cancellation line. They're most likely to buy your ticket if you're selling at face value. Higher than that it gets iffy (the people at the back of the line will probably buy your ticket at an inflated price.)

I think the only rule of reselling in NY is you can't exchange money within 150 feet of the theater or venue.

Someone was trying to resell a ticket for Dear Evan Hanson and the security guards said she had to move and could not sell them in front of the theater.

Below looks like it would be 500 feet from the theater

Found this on NYC Division of Licensing:

Individuals who purchase tickets solely for their own use or use of their invitees, employees and agents or individuals who purchase tickets on behalf of others and resells such tickets to invitees, employees and agents or others at or less than the established price are exempt from the licensure requirement. However, even those individuals who are exempt from licensure are prohibited from reselling tickets within a defined buffer zone of 1,500 feet from the physical structure or ticket office of a venue having a permanent seating capacity in excess of 5,000 persons and within 500 feet of the physical structure or ticket office of a venue having a permanent seating capacity of 5,000 or fewer persons.
