More than 20 years after Wicked first opened, composer Stephen Schwartz says he’s still not finished with the world of Oz.
He’s confirmed he’s working with longtime collaborator Winnie Holzman on a possible new musical based on L Frank Baum’s Oz books, this time focused on Princess Ozma.
Schwartz says the idea has been in development for a couple of years and that Universal is “very interested,” adding that they’re now seeing “if it will lead somewhere.”
He also shared that the Oz world is rich with stories still to tell, and this project would be a more direct take on Baum’s work rather than a reworking like Wicked.
It’s clear Oz is a place Schwartz keeps coming back to.

What an annoying, unoriginal, and certainly not witty, response....
A simple google search will show you it is in the works.

So it’s not a rumor then. There’s also literally an existing thread about that article if you just scrolled down a little.
But thanks anyways….I guess

Pretty much every other original Oz project besides Wicked of the last 20 years has flopped. Add this to the pile. Nobody cares about Oz, be content with your lightening in a bottle because its gonna be very embarassing for you.
