As much as I love Side Show and would love to see a revival, I'm not sure why there would be a new book. I thought the original was amazing. I think it was ahead of its time and would be well received now.

"Who Will Love Me As I Am?" and "Tunnel of Love" were my favorite numbers in that production. "Tunnel of Love" was so trippy, with the four on that boat ride, suspender in midair over the stage.

Is Bill Condon going to have to have a reason for the actors to sing, other than the fact that that are in a musical?
As long as the Hilton sisters aren't played by Paris and Nicky, I'm good.
I thought the whole show was incredible, minus I Will Never Leave You, which I just thought was too obvious a sentiment to end the show on.
it'sjustshowbiz, I tried to answer your PM but you are not accepting any. Perhaps you just have your PM function turned off.

Why PMs just turn off? That happened to me just today?
Ourtime, I know what you mean about "I Will Never Leave You." I always thought a reprise of "I Will Never Leave You" would have been better, but it doesn't kill the show for me.
Oh Phyllis, I don't disagree with you. I'm just pointing out that when it comes to casting, there have been some incredibly "unusual" choices made in the past.
And yes, I really do have a "Come Look at the Freaks" t-shirt.

Oh, I know, Miss P.
By the way, I read two wildly disparate reviews of the tour of Ted Neely is [still] Jesus Christ Superstar.
Did anyone see Lauren Kennedy in it? I remember that Emily was rumored to be out a lot. I wish we'd had BWW then!

Could you imagine Ethel Merman in the Alice Ripley part?

"This Buddy guy's trying to get his hand down my pants and I got this Daisy broad stuck to me day and night!"
Ethel would play both Daisy AND Violet!

Is it a rumor that when Emily was out (or Alice too for that matter), both understudies would go on or is that actual fact?
So if not an Emily/Alice Broadway reunion, who would you guys cast as the Hilton sisters?

No, I don't think that was the case, Ray. I think that Lauren Kennedy and Alice Ripley performed together. That Tony Nomination notwithstanding, I don't think they were tied to the roles like they were one.
I am wracking my brain trying to think who I would cast in this and I'm coming up short.
Leslie Kritzer is one.
Definitely not the case, ray... I know that there's uh, proof that Alice went on with Lauren Kennedy.
Thanks for letting me know, guys. I thought that'd be a little odd and unfair to whoever actress did NOT miss the show but I did read that either here or ATC, and since they had the joint nod and the roles seemed so dependent on each other I thought it might be true.
I did check on IBDB.com and it says that Kennedy replaced Skinner during the latter's sick leave. I didn't know that either.
Phyllis- oh. my god. Who can forget .."The Tunnel of Love" ..I call it the roller coaster song bec. they were singing it while in the roller coaster and I love the idea they got seperated (in their minds) in the coaters...
I love Norm Lewis as the Cannibal King..I think my favorite part was the song "Who Will Love Me as I am" - End of Act 1- when the twins was singing and later joined by all the freaks sneaking in and coming from the side...belting out....Who will Love Me as I am!!!
I remember when heard the idea of Wicked-the musical... I told myself...oh Side Show... but Side Show was numbers blend perfectly to the theme of the "freaks"
Act 1 has two sub-act- The Midway & The Vaudeville...while Act 2 are The Follies (love the costumes) & the Texas Centennial -which is the finale.
Ohhh.. I remember that year was a great year for Musical like 2004... Side Show, Lion King, Ragtime, Triumph of Love, The Capeman & with the exepton of Scarlett Pimpernell- I saw all the musicals that year....
I did not like Annie Get Your Gun that Much! The guy playing the Indian guy has a nice bod though in the show...

I love Side Show but I would never see this. Alice and Emily would not be in it (been there done that, couldn't convincingly play the twins now) and it would be a watered down version of the glory that was the OBC. You can't recapture that.
Regional productions? Yes, I have seen them. But, no way would I see a Broadway outing.
Ripley's understudy only went on once, I believe. It was the day before they were going to record the cast recording.
Skinner's understudy (Lauren Kennedy) went on, well, a lot.
I am still upset I never got to see it. So many great songs.
I guess it's very unlikely, but it would be amazing.
KC- I agree with you...Emily Skinner is kinda on the plus side now...( I dont mean that in a "mean" way) she wont really look like Alice Repley's conjoined twin sister anymore, while Alice is still looking like she did 10 yes ago..at 44 yrs old..oh.. I wish I can look like her at when I am 44 too...that's why I went to Macy's the other day ..and buy all the night cream that I needed!!!! lol!
Side Show is a very dark show....the theme is the freaks..meaniing different.. well more like very different from us... and try to find happiness, only to find out at the end... that they are different and really wont fit in... too bad.. this theme was not appreciate in the political-correct 90's!
I think Studio 54 would be a perfect venue for this... I remember the staging being dark and sometimes almost bare at some numbers...uh... I would love the idea of Leslie Kritzer as on of the Hilton Sisiters...I dont know the other one though.... or Sarah Gettelfinger as the twin but other star as her twin not Kritzer....
Michael Arden would be perfect for Buddy.
I hope this happens... I would love to see SIDE SHOW again!

They should just tie a rope around Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, and let them play the girls.
That'll sell tickets! And the promo with "Come Look at the Freaks" would NEVER have more resonance.
that would be a good idea, betsy..lol!
I just downloaded Side Show on my iTunes... I did not realize I still have not done that.. I am going to listen to it now...love Tunnel of Love! I can still remember the cast belting this song...
