Hey go die.

Beyond offensive.

Yikes, how... pretentious.

Said the pot to the kettle.

I understand where you're coming from but you didn't need to post the message twice. Now you're just being kind of mean spirited.

Or just calling someone out on his BS in hopes of keeping the next unsuspecting person he tries to suck up to. re: SCOTT ALAN - The Future Of POP MUSICAL THEATRE

Frankly, I think they are both insane, but is there actually any proof?

Re: Carly - Actually, other than being confused by papa's post, I think she came off rather well, especially compared to all the comments made about her. That thread is an excellent example of a double-standard. What's good for the goose was definitely held against the gander. So to speak.

The song MAGIC came at a really difficult time in a relationship for me. And that was it.

Scott, on the other hand, ran some concert drunk off his ass looking like a fool and walked all over a friend of mine. Don't really have much respect for the guy since then, sorry to say.

P.S. Thank you for posting the bit about DETOUR as I've been very curious for a long time. I've searched a lot on the net and haven't been able to find any information. I wasn't sure if it was a review, a song cycle, a new title for PIECE, etc. While curiosity got the best of me and I started to assume it was either made up or just exaggerated, I continued to search to not really find anything but a listing for the theater it played at. I know I'm not alone here on the boards in wondering about DETOUR, so, I'm glad you posted that listing and answered our questions.

Some of the songwriting is good. The melodies are good, yes, but some of the songs aren't. I'm a huge JRB fan and I'll openly admit that I feel the same way about some of his material.

I adore the song MAGIC and a few of the other tracks. Do I see a huge future for the material beyond cabaret? No. I don't think I could ever see this up on a Broadway stage, though I'm sure it could fare well in an off-broadway setting.

At the time that I discovered Scott Alan, I was going through a really difficult time and MAGIC meant a lot to me. Beyond that? I suppose I'm a bit of a kissass when I want sheet music. But who isn't?

Matt, I'd disagree. She started a poorly written thread for people to tell her how great she was and proved she was incapable of discerning any sort of tone from other posts. I thought the fact that she started that thread was kind of sad, actually. I think she was treated like anyone else on here would have been.

Iluv- You seem to have complimented his music in general, not just one song. Sounds to me like you're embarrased. One reply wasn't enough for you? It came in such a difficult time in your life you needed to send 19 more emails?

No question, as I said, I see why you'd be offended--just wasn't sure why you felt the need to post it twice nearly in succession!

Anyway, this thread looks like it's going to have a few Lifetime moments.

Mister Matt, I think the life lesson is pretty much to stay off the boards unless you're Marc Shaiman :P

I highly doubt it was 19.

I was also underage at the time I was going to MNNV with a friend who was overrage. The majority of the e-mails were working on figuring out if I could get in or not.

But after he responded to none of them, what else did you have to work out? you can only ask the same question without a response so many times.

And yeah, I'm a bit embarassed. My e-mail is overly cheesey and shows how much I've changed in the past few YEARS since I wrote it. It also shows my lack of taste in music considering some of the songs I listened to then make me cringe these days.

Man oh man, I do not miss my Frank Wildhorn phase.

Well, I'm sorry that I posted it...it's since been removed from this board.

And to clear up any confusion...no, I am not Scott Alan!

mwjr16, people on this site can be just really nasty. They haven't heard the music they just think they're being witty. Just write them off for the bitches they are, you don't need to defend yourself.

Mister Matt, I think the life lesson is pretty much to stay off the boards unless you're Marc Shaiman

Or remain anonymous if you are in any way connected to a show. In which case, you'll be labeled a shill if you promote anything you like, connected or not. Whatever. There's really no winning on this board unless you have continuously posted for years or are a walking encyclopedia of musical theatre history and anecdotes.

Or a total bitch. People seem to love that.

So I just bought this cd and listened to it all the way through and my first impression is that the music reminds me of a blend of Jason Robert Brown, John Bucchino, and Kerrigan and Lowdermilk. I love all of their music and am enjoying this cd but since I find it such a mix of their music I do not find it anything new (or by that means the future of pop musical theater). It will be interesting to see where his career goes, especially if we use JRB, or JB, as examples. re: SCOTT ALAN - The Future Of POP MUSICAL THEATRE

I got the CD and I'm disappointed. Not one memorable song in the bunch. I like "Kiss the Air" but I feel like all the riffing is just too much. If the riffing isn't rooted in any sort of emotion it just comes off as "showing off" which is annoying. I don't think any of the songs had a memorable melody, nor do I see how any of those songs could work in a show. Boring.
