SF Wicked vs. NY Wicked

Posted: 1/1/05 at 6:31pmI was curious if anyone knew how exactly the show changed from the try-out in San Francisco to the Broadway version. I've heard Elphaba's part changed, but how?

One of the mega changes was the replacement of the song "Which Way To The Party" with "Dancing Through Life"
Plot-wise, the show was somewhat closer to the original novel as well
Along with the usual lyric changes and cut reprises

Posted: 1/1/05 at 6:46pmDidnt see it, even though I live in the area. Alot of my friends who have seen both, have said the SF Production was better than the NYC. Having heard audios, i agree. The show was much much longer. Different costumes/wigs. (Glinda's popular dress was blue etc)

Posted: 1/1/05 at 6:48pmHmm, maybe I saw it late in the SF run then, because "Dancing Through Life" was definitely in there, as was Galinda's pink dress for Popular. I have to admit that I haven't seen the NY production yet, but having heard the recordings for both I have to say I enjoyed the SF one better.

So there is like nothing about SF Wicked online?
Hmm, I could have sworn the last time this question was asked there wasn't anything either. But in all seriousness, are there any websites or anything?

I've seen the show in both SF and NY and I would have to disagree with whoever said that the SF preview was better. There were certainly parts I liked more, such as the extended dialog right before Defying Gravity, along with the lyrics changes in As Long As You're Mine, but for the most part, the final product is much much better. The second act of the SF run was spotty at best, there were lots of things that weren't explained well, such as Elphaba's relationship to the Wizard (without giving away too much, although it seems as if nearly this entire board has seen the show), it also dragged and just didn't seem to flow.
I am also almost positive that Galinda's dress was pink during Popular when I saw it too...although I know I caught it during its last week in San Francisco. And while I still don't really care for Dancing Through Life, it is a much better song than Which Way Is The Party...not to mention it's staged much better and fits into the show more as a whole. Which Way To The Party just seemed to me like a "hey, we should probably give Fiyero a solo somewhere...let's throw this in".

Posted: 1/1/05 at 8:13pmIts like the same exact dress only blue. I think the pink is better, it suits her character more.

I read somewhere (I can't remember where) that in between SF and NY, Elphaba's part got much bigger or I guess that her importance in the story seemd to edge out Glinda's. I guess that's specifically what I was intending with my initial question. Is this true? Anybody know any backstory about this
And the blue dress vs. the pink dress thing. If Dancing through Life wasn't initially part of the show, I guess the black is this year's pink line was incorporated later and thus a costume change needed

It has like everything...

bwayfan: I read that somewhere too. Galinda was a much larger role so they expanded Elphaba's part and took Galinda's down a notch.
Another difference: Elphabas u/s was Stephanie Block who left to do TBFO (on Bway, it, obviously, was Eden)

For some reason, the graphics on the Broadway Wicked site haven't been working for me for a coupld of weeks now.
What is that all about?

Something interesting I've noticed. Between SF & Broadway, there have been a ton of Glinda's (mostly Standy By/ Understudy).
Kristin Chenoweth
Melissa Bell Chait
Laura Bell Bundy
Jennifer Laura Thompson
Melissa Fahn
Megan Hilty
I know all of those went on as Glinda. But I'm not sure about Melissa Fahn. Doe's anyone know if Melissa Fahn has ever went on as Glinda? I don't know if this is the thread for this. But doe's anyone know about Melissa Fahn??
