Ryan Duncan's not black...how did that work out?

Does Donkey need to be black? Isn't he just a Donkey? I understand that playing it like Eddie Murphy lends some slang to the role, but I'd think it wouldn't matter too much. I will admit, I haven't seen the show yet, so I could be wrong in my assessment.

I don't think he NEEDS to be black but it sure would help. Donkey "lends some slang to the role" as you said.

Jenna, it'd be sort of like having white folks play the leads in The Lion King. It doesn't really work.

wouldn't it be uncomfortable having ryan duncan as donkey? i mean this without a hint of rascism but the book of the musical follows the stereotypical "black" dialogue and indiosyncrasies as performed by eddie murphy in the movie pretty closely...

Sarah Jane Everman was on as Fiona last night. I enjoyed her performance very much. She was very endearing.
just out of wonder, am I the only one who thinks it would be hysterical to put jen cody on for young fiona?
Does anyone know why Sutton was out last night and/or if she plans on being out again anytime soon? I'm seeing the show on Saturday afternoon and really wanted to see her.
I'd like to know if they're going to put Haven Burton on as Fiona soon! That's a performance I'd love to see!!!!
I bet it will happen like with what happened when she was in LB.
Which would be a shame, because Haven Burton blew every other Elle right out of the water.
Also considering that she sucked noodles as Margot.
Well, yes, which is why I was so surprised that her Elle Woods was as fabulous as it was.
Sutton has the stomach flu right now, I've heard. I'm not sure how long she will be out. I'm sure it won't be any longer than a couple of days. Poor girl. Hope she gets better soon!
And what do you mean it will probably be the same situation for Haven as in LB? What happened? I actually wouldn't mind seeing her as Fiona too. She blew me away as Gingy!
haha, it would be kinda amusing to see Jen Cody go on as Young Fiona ... she sure is short enough. But I don't think she would ever go for that. haha.
Saw the show 1/7E.
Review to follow.

So I take it that Sutton will most likely be out of tomorrow's show?
I don't know anything for sure, but it sounds like it.
I would apperiate it if someone could report when Sutton is back in the show. I'm seeing it the 28th, I'm hoping she'll have time to recover by then.
Ugh...I was so excited to see the show mainly because of her and D'Arcy James.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping by some miracle she's better by tomorrow evening.
I believe Sutton was back tonight. Or will be back tomorrow. She was indeed sick.

Haven Burton was the second cover for Elle Woods in LB (Becky Gulsvig was the first cover). So, the only times Haven went on were pre-scheduled performances at the end of Laura Bell Bundy's vacation, after Becky had already done most of the week. Haven wet on as Elle twice, and was, as I said before, magnificent.
Sutton was out for the 1/7 matinee but she was back on as Fiona last night. A nasty stomach flu is going around the cast, which is why Daniel Breaker missed performances as Donkey.
Ryan Duncan's roles were being covered at the 1/7 matinee for a 'swing-in'. He was in the audience watching the show while a swing got a chance to go on.
I'm glad to hear that Sutton is back in the show and feeling better. I hope she's in tomorrow when I see it!
Haven was amazing as Elle, i would love to see her as Fiona
