This shouldn't be that bad.
This past summer I did a stage version of Shrek and it turned out great.
The raging horror!
Oy Vey
Thank God, they're bringing this to the stage what with the lack of ORIGINAL ideas floating around out there.

There's a piece in the New York Times today on this- what a joke! The movie sucked...
FINALLY! A role for Nathan Lane...
I don't know.. but the transformation of Fiona could be interesting.

I'm mixed about this...
While watching the second film, I found myself thinking about what kind of musical it would make. I also anticipate Shrek 3 to be a musical, as 1 had one song, and 2 had a few. lol, maybe wishful thinking?
I miss animated musicals...

This would be a fun show to light.
OH goody, another cartoon coming to Broadway. And another show where the audience won't have to use any part of their brain because they will know the plot before they come into the theatre.
Another nail goes into Broadways coffin.
Who do you think can pull off the roles of Shrek, Fiona, Lord Farquaad, and the Donkey?

I'm glad most you weren't around when ANNIE was being created. Or Li'l Abner. Or You're A Good Man Charlie Brown. Or, yes, even I will say, Beauty and the Beast.
Let's wait until the show is actually on the stage before we condemn it for "killing" broadway. There is room for ALL sorts on the great white way. That doesn't mean "broadway" dying. The world changes and it's great to get completely fresh and innovative works on the stage, there's nothing wrong having commercially successful vehicles either.
sounds really bad...sad that they have to resort to this....but I won't knock it until I see/hear it....meh

There is no originality anymore. Why make this a musical when you can rent the crappy movie for $3???

Then don't go Deena. It's that simple.

Gee thanks Jeff! No, I wouldn't go anyway.
For a bunch of so called "Broadway lovers" none of you are very supportive of a possible new show. Broadway will not die from new pieces of art, it will die because of the negativity and lack of hope from people like you.
I agree with redhot on this one Oy Vey
I want to ask you people how can you judge the actual show before it has even been written or even on the Broadway stage? It could be totally different from the movie. If Shrek hadn't been a movie, would you be saying the same things?
Once you've seen the show, and you think it sucks, then by all means, go ahead and post negative comments about it. But don't judge something before it has come to the stage.

I really think you are missing the point- Why has there been such a trend to turn blockbuster movies into musicals? Is there no one out there who can write something original?
I think its a shame that people want to see what they already "Know." There are no surprises and its safe.
I am not judging the show- I have obviously not seen it, nor do I care to when it's finally produced. Yes, it could be different from the movie, but we already know the story so really, why not just rent the movie?

Broadway is a business...it's about money. Those shows will make the money. You know, there are so many talented people on this forum who complain about the lack of "originality" on Broadway...why don't you guys try to come up with something, being the huge Broadway lovers you are?

I liked the Shrek movies, and I think a staged version could be quite interesting. I won't judge until I've seen. I wonder if Fiona's transformation will be done in the same way as the Beast? We shall see.
I love the shrek movies, but i don't see how they will out this on broadway. It just seems like its meant for a teme park...not broadway. Not to be rude to the people who are involved with the show, but i hope this project is panned.
There IS NO GOD! WHY? I AM REALLY FURIOUS ABOUT THIS.
