The news of this closing distresses me greatly. That theater group from Narberth, PA was planning another theater party and wanted me to join them.
Oh, the disappointments of life!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a good time for religion on Broadway, it seems ;P.
(Oh, seems a thread has made note of this: https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.php?thread=1047235&boardname=off&dt=2&boardid=2)

Posted: 6/20/12 at 9:22pmConsidering it had no "stars" and was basically just running on box office recognition from the movie (and Menken), it did very well. And it was a fun show.

Posted: 6/20/12 at 9:46pmI thought the show was ok but can't say I care that it's closing.

Posted: 6/20/12 at 11:55pmI feel this will do well touring and in regional & community theaters. Sad to see it go as I really enjoyed it.

This show will live on for years in regional productions.
Broadway really has a bad tastes in it's mouth for religion this year.

Posted: 6/21/12 at 1:23pmI guess I am not all that surprised, but thought it may have lasted another year or so.

For a show I expected to hate and ended up the exact opposite, I loved it.
It is preposterous for 'Into The Woods' to go into the Broadway, it would be swamped by empty seats. On the other hand the West End version of 'Singin' in the Rain would be amazing, I am not a lover of the show period, but I adore this production.

I don't think there would be very many empty seats of Amy Adams was a part of it.

I have questions about whether even Amy Adams could fill the Broadway. (Sondheim is not everyone's cup of tea and putting a big star in it may not make it so. Artistically, the show really would thrive better in a midsize venue like the Shubert or the Hirschfeld-something about the intimacy.)
I would also think the Longacre or Belasco would be better choices for that very reason. (I admit I adore the newly renovated Belasco.)

"the Hirschfeld-something about the intimacy."
The original production played there. Maybe they should bring this new production there.
