Posted: 3/21/08 at 6:57pmPersonally, I would go with the OBC DVD and the revival CD. I just don't really like the OBCR, but the DVD is wonderful.

Posted: 3/21/08 at 7:10pmBernadette's vocals are much stronger on the OBCR opposed to the DVD. Just a note for you.

Well I would recommend both. The OBCR is pretty cheap. But if you only want one...get the London recording sine you already have the DVD.
Be aware that Daniel Evans and Jenna Russell are the only cast members from the London production/recording that are in the Broadway revival. They won't be making a Broadway revival recording.

I would go with London for a complete score but I love the performances on the OBCR more.
Russell fails in the shaddow of Bernadette's We Do Not Belong Together, imo.
In fact, both Patinkin and Peters' performances are more emotionally gratifying to me than Evans and Russell, I still wish I could see them though, I'm sure it's better onstage.

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl
"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

Posted: 3/21/08 at 7:30pmI know, after seeing the revival I was hoping for a recording (if anything for Beautiful with Mary Beth Peil) but it really makes no sense, financially, to record one.

Posted: 3/21/08 at 7:37pmI have the DVD and the revival CD and I am very satisfied. iTunes has the OBCR so you may purchase the songs that you like as singles. Enjoy.

Posted: 3/21/08 at 9:18pmThe orchestrations on the OBCR are superior to the revival recording.

Posted: 3/21/08 at 9:50pmI personally think that the OBCR is definite and as much as I enjoy Evans and Russell, I think the magic that the likes of Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters (in what might be her definite role, along with Mabel Normand and Ruby), Dana Ivey (I didn't realize how brilliant she was as Yvonne until I listened to Sadovy and saw Molaskey), Barbara Bryne, Charles Kimbrough, Brent Spiner, and Robert Westenberg (just to mention a few of the performers) is not matched by the revival recording. Both are strong recordings of a brilliant score, but ultimately the OBCR wins this race.

Posted: 3/21/08 at 11:08pmI'm going to be different and say the London recording. The orchestrations are not as good, but I personally prefer the vocals.

Posted: 3/21/08 at 11:10pmI like the original recording much more than the revival. Fuller orchestrations and Bernadette is stunning on it!

Posted: 3/22/08 at 9:49amI think the OBCR is a better recording, but I listen to the LCR more because I’d rather listen to the more complete recording. So I guess it depends on what you want. If you have the DVD already, I would recommend the LCR.
