I have the same exact problem, except my is on 2/22. I have never, in my whole college career, skipped a class. I told my mom I probably am and she nearly flipped out about it but I decided that I am 21 and I can do things once in a while...although I do feel really bad about skipping. My classes are 5-7 (oceanography lab) and 7-10 (oceanography class) But there is a lab from 3-5 that I can go to but I would even have to leave early from that one to get to Miami on time.
I don't want to miss it and I really feel like I deserve to go but I just don't wanna dissapoint my parents. uhh...decisions decisions decisions...
I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and go.

Unless you're in danger of failing based on one night's attendance, SKIP. In fact, you could probably talk to your professor about it ahead of time. I know most of my college professors would have worked with me to miss one class in order to go to a book signing, considering the amount of other students who just skipped to go get high and hang out.

the teacher might teach the same course at another time to a different group of kids. if thats the case you could sit in then.

I've talked to my professor and she said it would be fine and just to let her know a week early. She said she could e-mail me the stuff that I missed..etc...
The only thing is that this is a once a week class. AAHHH- can't the book signing be on any other day!!!
I know people who have missed so many classes but I just feel...I don't know. I just feel like missing a day or something is gonna make me a 'bad person, If I am sick, I go to class...
One week I totally felt like crap but went through the week and then went to the hospital Friday night because I was doubled over in pain and it was appendicitis...I mean, I really go out of my way to not miss classes.
Uhh- I don't want to regret not going to this but I also don't want to regret the fact that I am gonna miss class and I don't want my parents to be mad...

I'm the same way about missing classes, specially the price college is going for lately and my class is a once a week class as well. My other thing is, it's at night and in Washington DC. My parents wouldn't flip at the thought of me skipping class, but the idea of going do DC alone at night would piss them off. (which sucks because i'm 20 and shouldn't have to worry about this type of stuff

Unless you missed so many classes, then skip.

Are people seriously saying that you should talk to your professor and *tell* them that you want to skip class to meet a celebrity? I'm not normally one for dishonesty, but I really don't think it's wise to go "oh, the professor will understand that!" because... well, I just don't think most professors would be very cool with that. If you skip, just... don't go. You can get the notes or whatever from a classmate, I'm sure. Or, if you tell the professor in advance, don't be elaborate. Just say you have to miss class. I really can't imagine -- with all due respect to Anthony -- that a professor would think it a good reason to miss his class, since most professors tend to think their classes are THE most important thing in the universe.

Have to agree with luvtheemcee...don't tell her that's the reason you're missing. Unless it's a course where the prof. is a real hard a@@ about you missing ANY classes (and I took a couple of those in my day) then missing really won't be a big deal. This is coming from someone who also NEVER missed class unless I was nearly dying or had some other VERY good reason - I never missed just to miss. Even now, as a teacher, I don't ever take off because it's just more of a hassle than being there.

What size is the class?
Whether small or large, I say skip. These types of things may or may not come your way anytime soon, and you'll regret it if you don't go. If it is a large class, just don't go. If it is a small class, email your professor the day of saying you're sick and that you'll get the notes from someone else. By any means, do not actually *ask* your professor for permission. Just don't go.

Skip it- just let your professor know via email that you will not be in class (this is coming from a professor!). Too much info in this case might work against you.
On another note, does anyone know if Anthony will be singing at the Miami signing?

Ok, Im from Canada, and not Toronto or Ontario at all for that matter. Anyway my point is, celebrities like Antony never never never come to Canada to do book signings unless its Toronto. I am a HUGE HUGE fan, and I wish I had the chance to see him in person. So if I were you, I would go and not regret it. How many other classes are you going have in your life time??? Lots. How many Antony Rapp book signings????? None!
So do it.

bmeonbway2- it doesn't say he is singing but maybe we can't get him to since it seems he is singing everywhere else. I called Books and Books to find out exactly where they were at and they said it doesn't start until 8. Now I'm confused because the thing on his site said 7. hmmm...
