Has Ken Davenport had any successful solo-producing endeavors? Or in general? Not snarky, just curious how this guy keeps getting options with his track record.
A Slumdog musical was in the works 12 years ago but seems to have been derailed by conflict between producer Paul Smith and Danny Boyle and A.R. Rahman. Julian Fellowes and Matthew Warchus were apparently at one point attached, but it doesn't seem that went anywhere.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Normally I’d raise caution with Ken’s involvement, but considering his personal connection to India and the story I have trust. As long as he doesn’t attach himself as a writer or give himself another creative title I think this will be successful.
I’d be interested if this or the DDLJ musical will make it to broadway first.

The short answer is no. As much as KD likes to think of himself as David Merrick, Hal Prince and Cameron Mackintosh all rolled into one -- he's nothing more than a "marketing guy" (and not a terribly innovative one at that). Wish this property had landed in someone else's hands.
We shall see, of course (or not), but aside from KD's dubious achievements, it is worth noting that Rahman's only other venture into Broadway waters was not exactly the "dream" one might have hoped for. It will be interesting to see who else becomes attached; the fact that it remains to be announced is not an especially reassuring sign.
