Posted: 5/22/12 at 6:19pmI'm sure Leo will be out as well. Not surprised to hear James is leaving, his character had nowhere to go and I assumed Will Chase was gonna leave anyways, he was awful and interestingly enough, given their real life romance, he didn't have chemistry with Messing either. I'm so glad that the new showrunner went in there and wasn't afraid to let go of the characters that were holding the show back. I agree they need to redeem Ivy but most importantly, they need to figure out what the character is like, she can be complex and multi-layered, but as written by Theresa Rebeck the character was full of contradictions that made little sense. So nice to see they are actually trying to improve the show! Can't wait for the second season.

If Will Chase is out, does that mean Bombshell is getting another leading man?
Maybe Tony Yazbeck's pilot that he jetted out for will be quickly canceled.

Per EW website two more cut. So confirming THR
UPDATE: Brian d’Arcy James, who played Julia’s (Debra Messing) husband Frank, and Will Chase, who played Julia’s former lover Michael, are leaving Smash, too. In the finale, Frank saw Julia comforting Michael on stage and assumed the duo were back to their old, ahem, tricks.
Was interesting just watching the interview here with James saying he was looking forward to season 2.

That's not correct. He saw them but she chased after him and they had the most adult, mature conversation they've ever had.

Of all the people to not get cut, the talent-free and annoying son. Daddy must be one of the studio executives.
Will Chase - good riddance. Raza Jaffrey, although cute, his character was also annoying and unnecessary. I was kind of hoping they'd write off Kittie McPhee and replace her with someone else.
I'll repeat again, I liked Jaime Cepero as Ellis. I thought he was cute. Can't blame him for the bad and erratic writing his character was saddled with.
History is Made at Night is my least favorite song. It just always sounded so whiney.

Posted: 5/22/12 at 8:12pmFor the person who said Lea and Chris from "Glee" are rumored: according to a story from a few days ago, Lea and Chris are going to continue to be on "Glee" after graduation and have major story lines for next season (at least Lea does). So it's doubtful they'll be coming over, at least not as continuing characters. The guy who ran "Gossip Girls" has so many New York actors he's worked with on that show, I wouldn't doubt the new parts haven't already been cast or he has people in mind from that show. Though getting people from "Glee" might get some of that show's audience, and there's plenty of people to pick from.

Phyllis, I'm hoping that they completely ignore that awful awful line that poor Debra Messing got saddled with hinting at the season 2 pregnancy. Michael Riedel said in one of his columns that Messing's character is based on Rebeck, and he cited the adoption storyline specifically as one of the similarities between the character and the playwright, so I'm hoping that now that Rebeck is gone they'll find something for Debra Messing to do that's not child-related. Hopefully the new showrunner knows how to write stories for a 40-something year old woman that do not rely on dumb love triangles, Leo's pot-smoking, or adoption/pregnancy storylines.

Given the Gossip Girl connection, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Tveit played this role, which doesn't seem like it would be much of a stretch for him:
Danny, a straight, working class fella in his mid-20s and from Brooklyn. He is summed up as sexy, charismatic and musically gifted, but also self-destructive and remote. Applicants must have the skills to sing in a rock and/or soul voice.

Yeah Whitney looks like David Spade in that tvline.com photo.
All I can say to those of you who are dancing on Ellis' grave is be careful what you wish for. Glee fans HATED Terri, and were thrilled when showrunners greatly reduced her role, but it was at that point the show jumped the rails and Will, its main character, started circling the drain as it was clear that they had no idea what to do with him if he wasnt being cuckolded.

I believe Ellis should stay for he adds a person we all can hate other than the two leads. I think the viewers would have hated or gotten annoyed at Karen or Ivy to quickly. The actor who plays Ellis is doing his job wonderfully, we were meant to get annoyed by him. An actor's job well done. I'll miss Dev and BDJ though

Actually Aaron Tveit has booked another pilot already. He is the lead actor in a USA Network series called "GRACELAND" from Jeff Eastin, the creator of "White Collar."
However, many Broadway actors have been on Gossip Girl including Max Von Essen, Matt Doyle and Jennifer Damiano.
Clearly the GG producer is reading Broadwayworld for advice on how to improve the show.

Maybe the subject line could have read: Season 2 on SMASH... Or Spoiler Alert... Or something...
And then some of us might not have read it...
As someone who never reads the last chapter first, I'm kinda sorry to already know this.
(that being said, I'm glad to hear about Ellis)
