And yet, some people liked it.

Why would anyone want to do this terrible show?

Some people like any show no matter how bad. I think the general consensus was the show was a mess but there were some excellent performances by people like Robyn Hurder.

The bar of how bad or failed a show has to be to not get into licensing is INSANELY high, because "make something back on the back end in licensing, even a slow trickle," is about 50% of why a show even opens on Broadway these days. Broadway is a commercial for licensing houses as much as it is its own entity.

Probably the biggest issue was simply that they did nothing to make the songs relevant to the plot (either as commentary or as a vehicle for associated emotions), so it was really just a second-rate backstage farce with random songs sprinkled throughout. If they can do anything at all to address that in the licensed version, it would at least be a step in the right direction.

Maybe they'll redo the whole show and make it the Bombshell show everyone wanted in the first place.
Also, we are probably robbed forever from ever getting a "Hit List" adaptation, if there was ever the slimmest of chances of that ever being created. Big bummer.

They DID a Hit List adaptation and piloted it in concert at 54 Below. It was pretty decent.

Basically, I think the show should have been Season One of SMASH with some edits/changes. Eliminate storyline of Julia's family. Karen does not have her idiot BF. Make the reason Ivy resorts to using pills be trying to live up to her overbearing Broadway star mother and not Derek. Make the stage show end with the successful opening of "Bombshell" with Ivy as the star. Making the stage show a comedy was mistake IMO.
Liked the music of Hit List, not sure if they could have made a good stage show of it.
