SOUTH PACIFIC on LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER? Maybe?

Yup. Just got a call from a pal of mine who works over at Lincoln Center and he just learned that they are negotiating with the Hammerstein Estate to possibly air the current SOUTH PACIFIC revival as part of PBS's LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER series.
Here's hoping a deal IS struct and this does air. They allowed the recent Carnegie Hall concert with Reba McEntire and Brian Stokes Mitchell to be filmed (not by PBS, but a private company), so hopefully since LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER has a restricted amount of airings and no home video release, they might say yes.

My initial reaction would be, "Not anytime soon".
South Pacific just opened to rapturous reviews, has about a 10 mil advance and is showing sings of being a cash cow for Lincoln Center Theatre and for R + H Organization at least for the time being.
Things may change as the run winds down, but don't hold your breath.
As many a hooker has said, "Why give it away for free when so many will pay for it?"

Hopefully it will be taped before the original cast leaves, even though I'm sure it will not air until after the show closes.
The fact that PIAZZA was taped without the original cast was an utter shame.

I disagree. I wouldn't have tuned in if I had to sit through Kellli O'Hara's "performance" a second time. I hope they film South Pacific after she leaves as well.

They may tape it to air post-closing or towards the end of the run like they did with Contact.
Speaking of which, I'm stilled pissed I lost my Contact tape. I loved that show.

Posted: 5/2/08 at 7:26pmContact and Piazza were broadcast LIVE at the closing day matinee. That's why the show is called "LIVE from Lincoln Center." And that's why they weren't the original casts. They were done on closing day, so it couldn't possibly hurt ticket sales.
