Posted: 3/17/05 at 5:37pmI dont know.. I noticed that too. I hate that they post it so early.. some of the actors probably arent even at the theatre yet!

Posted: 3/17/05 at 5:37pmI'm not surprised that it's a rave. But I could not disagree more.

Posted: 3/17/05 at 5:43pmI wouldn't call it a complete rave--some of the review makes it sound sort of trivial fun (Laker girls??)...but it does confirm Sara Ramirez is the breakout star of this show!

A review from Newsday hardly confirms anything...
But everyone knows it's mindless "fun." But it's still a rave.

Hmm. Yeah. The cast is probably starting to arrive NOW and this review is already up...
... jumping the gun, much??

What does a review being posted have to do with the cast arriving? Nothing.
And if you think it does, the cast has been there for some time. It's a 6:30 curtain on opening night.

Posted: 3/17/05 at 5:56pmI was surprised to find out that some chorus members come as late as 30 before curtain!

Posted: 3/17/05 at 6:04pmWell, regardless, Newsday is up too early. There's been a long-standing custom for news outlets to wait until the opening night curtain goes up before making their reviews available online. Everyone else observes that practice out of courtesy, with the occasional exception of Newsday and the AP.

Munk, I'm a little confused as to what you mean. You could NOT disagree more? I know that that is a often used expression but based on your other posts I'm getting that you COULD disagree more. Don't mean to nit pick, just curious.

Pab, I still don't see your point. IT's the same as I could/I could not care less. COULD NOT care less is correct. If you COULD care less, that means you care.
MEANING
I could not disagree more with her review. MEaning, I disagree with it to the fullest possible extent.

Broadway.com is also mixed:
" The killer rabbit makes an appearance in Spamalot, along with the flatulent Frenchman and the head-banging monks. But something is missing from this frequently enjoyable, relentlessly on-message conflation of Monty Python shtick with Broadway razzmatazz.
The blend of star appeal, Python pedigree and a handful of decent gags might well be enough to make Spamalot a runaway hit. (Or, as the hapless King Arthur would say, a "Run away!" hit.) That alchemic combination of old material and new stagecraft, however, rarely takes place. The beloved Python routines are performed with relish but little in the way of fresh insight. Most surprisingly, many of the new jokes feel like placeholders, as if the script were riddled with Post-Its saying, "Fine for now until we think of something funnier."
_________________________________________________________________
Spamalot generates an awful lot of smiles and a decent number of giggles. And that's more than a lot of musicals can say. But Nichols, Idle, Pierce and Azaria are capable of laughs--big, satisfying, infectious belly laughs--and those are few and far between. As the Pythons famously reminded us in song, it's important to always look on the bright side of life, no matter what. It's just a bit surprising that Spamalot, with its advance hype and dreamy cast, would require anyone to do any looking."

Posted: 3/17/05 at 6:43pmI'm actually glad all the reviewers arent giving it automatic raves because of the hype. I personally found it to be alright, but nothing spectacular or worthy of raves. DRS and Spelling Bee were FAR better shows! I hope Ben Brantley sticks to his usual

Posted: 3/17/05 at 6:43pmI'd say the Talkin' Broadway review was more of a pan...he called it unispired...and didn't even like Sara Ramirez, whom everyone seemed to like in this show..
#21re: Newsday Spamalot Review Up!
Posted: 3/17/05 at 6:44pmI very much agree with those reviews.
