1. What? Why are you even posting that on this thread? That is severely off-topic, in addition to being rather irritating.
2. And furthermore, it makes no sense why you would post that on this thread, or on any other Spring Awakening-appreciating threat, unless you were just looking for a fight. So don't be so surprised you got one. It seems like you just felt like being bitter and cynical, and that's fine if that's your style, but why are you bothering everyone else with that?
You'll notice I have not even begun to comment on the actual statement itself... that's not the point. The point is you're just looking annoy people by bashing exactly what they are praising, which is highly annoying.
3. However, now that we mention your actual statement... I will now dissect that ridiculous paragraph (I like outline formats).
a) "I was listening to a podcast...and she was absolutely terrible." Do you listen to popular music (not showtunes)? Have you ever seen one of those artists in concert? Of course she's not going to be as perfect as the recording; that is doctored beyond belief. Live performances are not perfect; that is the beauty of live theatre. If not for that spontaneity, it would have died out with the rise of movies. Give her a break. Can you sing like that? I'll be the first to say that I can't.
b) "She insulted films that have been brought to Broadway, Disney Broadway musicals, the upcoming Shrek, and jukebox musicals." Is this the first time you've heard anyone insult these groups? It happens ever 3.7 seconds here on the boards. What makes you think a Broadway star wouldn't have the same views as any other theatregoer/critic? I am not a fan of Disney or jukebox musicals either - although that's not the point. I also don't think someone should make a generalization about ALL movie-to-musicals - but that's also not the point. She's allowed her opinion.
c) "And she dropped an F-bomb." She's a big girl. If you are offended by the "F-bomb" I can't imagine what you think about the whole musical. It is not for the faint of heart.
4. I have just one last question: Have you even SEEN the show? I am a big fan of you-can't-make-judgment-calls-about-a-show-you-haven't-seen.
Love,
Me

This show is not trying to be edgy. It was a play written by Frank Wedekind in the late 1800's.
Lizzy, all you like are Disney shows that's why a lot of people are being rude to you. If you had a wide variety in theater I wouldn't mind if you didn't like SA. It's different when you start disliking an actor for cursing or not liking your type of shows your into. SA is not porno, it nudity that is tastefully done. Nobody is having raunchy, disgusting sex. Your reasons of disliking Lea are invalid and just don't make sense. Its hard for me to believe you're my age.

Let me just say this: "art" is in the eye of the beholder. Tasteful nudity can be artful. You are in no position to tell anyone what is "art". Obviously the creators did it for artistic effect. That's all that counts.
You are also in no position to say why people think it is "cool." Often among your age group, people think things are "automatically cool" because they are risque, or because the people want to fit in... as you get older, you actually start appreciating things for their own merit. Go figure.

I didn't say why people thought it was "cool." I was just saying that people think it's trying to be edgy with its storyline when it's not because its a play written by Frank Wedekind. I do not get into other things because others think they are cool.I'm not the type to get into anything to fit in or just because others are into it. I didn't start liking this show because others did. I appreciate this show for what it is.

But hey it's 1890, so that makes it art.
I'd like to see a spanking scene in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

When I saw that for the first time I started cracking up.

If you have iTunes and want to listen to this podcast I am discussing, it is in the podcast series "Next Big Hit Broadway Bullet", episode 19.
I understand that you don't agree with me, I was never asking you to or putting down your opinions of the show. I was just saying why I no longer liked it.

and again I mention, theres a huge difference between not liking a performer as a PERSON and not liking a show! just because you dont like her as a person doesn't mean you have to not like the show! Since you said you DID like it at first, I feel bad for YOU if you feel like you cant like it anymore just because of one interview lea did. You're depriving yourself of a REALLY good show :)
oh and yeah, its funny you say she was pushed into it because in a recent online interview (I want to say it was broadway.com fresh face), she was saying how much she LOVES the business and wants to be in it forever. That doesn't sound like someone who doesn't appreciate theater to me.

2. Your mother may have a degree in psychology, but you do not. Again, I don't think people (anyone) should talk about things they do not know. Especially backing it up with "well my mom is a psychologist." My parents are both lawyers, and let me tell you, you would not want me representing you in court.
3. She didn't struggle? Sure she did. Maybe not to the same degree as some. She was unknown prior to SA.
Also do you know what it means that she was in a Broadway show at 9? It means she was a little girl with a lot of talent.
4. I just cannot BELIEVE you are making all these statements without having SEEN the show. Not to toot my own horn, but I am very good at picking up storylines and such from the cast album, articles, podcasts, etc. But with SA, it can't be done. The story is not in the CD at all, and anyway, this show is not about the story. You CANNOT make value judgments if you DON'T KNOW what you're talking about.

That sounds rather ridiculous, don't you think?

Just....UGH.

-A. There was nothing wrong she said in the interview.
-B. I clearly see her point on her stand with disney and movie musicals. She is defending her own show. I agree 100% people go see disney for the "name" and it is soo hard to sell a show that people have heard is more risque.
p.s. when she cursed i thought she was adorbale and how she said "my mom's gonna kill me."

Edited because I had to rant
"I was talking about her as a human being me on that either because my mother has a degree in psychology."
And your point is?
"No I have not seen the show, but I have the cast recording and have read every article about it. "
If you have read every article on the show you would have read Lea's playbill.com interview. She talks a lot about her childhood and getting into theater and how it was her idea to do it, not her mothers.
Edited because I had to rant.
