Posted: 1/4/07 at 2:42pmOf course I can relate to SA, I am the age the show is about. But I am pretty normal. Now I don't get abused or anything like that, but of course I have trouble finding myself. Musical theatre has actually helped a lot with that. Yes, I have kids in my school with these problems (pregnancy, being ostracized because people think they are sluts, etc.) but it's not like that kind of thing just "happens" to someone. They bring it on themselves. Is religion brought up in the show? I am a strong Christian so I am not as lost as some of the characters in the show are. I don't hang with the wrong crowd where issues like these are present. And what "hole" are you talking about? This is just some stupid message board on the internet, it's not like I care what you think. I thought this was just a place where nerdy theater-goers could hang out and express our opinions about stuff- but obviously not. I never insulted ANYONE on this board. It's not like I put that post on the "Spring Awakening Love" thread. It's fine that you like the show- I like it, too. And I do believe it is wonderful & revolutionary. I want to see it but it's not like I can get to NY anytime soon. I live in Florida. In fact the next time I go will be in like 18 months. So I wish I could see it. But if I go to NY it will be with my family (cause I'm only 14) and they certainly don't want to see it. I love the CD. I wish I knew what the plot was. But I have other things to spend my money on. A big part of seeing a show (since that occurence is so rare for me) is adoring and respecting the cast as well. Probably 50% of the reason I see a show is because of who's in it. I know Lea was just being casual, but I just think she could have been wiser with her words. As could I.

You don't have to relate to the show to appreciate it. You don't relate to the show but I like it a lot.
"I don't hang with the wrong crowd where issues like these are present."
Neither do I. There are plenty of issues like this in everyone's school.
"This is just some stupid message board on the internet, it's not like I care what you think. "
Let me tell you this you will probably learn more about Broadway on this board then anywhere else.
"I thought this was just a place where nerdy theater-goers could hang out and express our opinions about stuff- but obviously not."
Theater isn't "nerdy." People can refer to themselves as theater nerds if they please but its wrong to call everyone a nerd.
"I want to see it but it's not like I can get to NY anytime soon. I live in Florida...I wish I knew what the plot was."
I live on the West Coast and my parents aren't to fond of NYC. Read the play and you will understand it more.

Posted: 1/4/07 at 3:00pmbecoz, I want to learn about Broadway from all these people on the boards but all I get are arguments. I don't think I've gotten a decent comment once except my very first post when I asked about voice lessons.

sorry, this is from like a WHILE back, but
I'm not in denial, I'm just saying that in my high school, which is public with 2800 kids, there are only 2 pregnant girls in the entire school. Sure the issues are real, but only for a select few. (less than 1%)
but remember, thats NOW
You're right, now thats a pretty rare situation although it does happen. But I'm willing to bet that it happened more often back in that setting. Thats why I have an easy time believing it, is because I cant imagine being in that strict society and NOT being curious about sex and everything. (and yes, to answer your question, religion is VERY much a part of the story- mostly just because its so so strict. But yeah, a lot of All That's Known is about religion and the school system and stuff) It was just sooooo different than the U.S. culture of today, where sex is practically displayed in the media. So... thats just something I thought of
And Lizzy, just, you know, to let you know, if you dont want to go for Lea (who really is an amazing performer, no matter HOW she is as a person), go for Jonathan Groff (he's incredible AND sooo gorgeous)!
And stagedoor too, because he and John Gallagher are seriously THE nicest people! With both of them I wanted to be like "um, can I have you please?" <3
Actually, just go for the entire rest of the cast. They're all SO great.

Posted: 1/4/07 at 4:42pmI know when I saw the pics of the show for the first time it was painful how gorgeous the guys are! I'm also a huge fan of Remy Zaken. But yah I would agree it was more back then because it's not like they had sex ed ot anything like that.

Posted: 1/4/07 at 4:45pmLizzy, while, we are all entitled to our own opinions it was rude of you to jack this thread and exclaim your negative views of this show. This thread was simply about the spring awakening cd signing (and not about discussing the show). If you don't like the show, then don't go to the signing. If you really feel so passionate about informing everyone of your negative view of Lea and thus the show, please start your own thread. Thank you.

This show is NOT about 14-year-olds. They are around 17 or so, and three years is a major difference in that age range.
Yay Donna Darko.
And Lizzy, the reason all you get is arguments is because you frame your comments in such an aggressive and rude and demeaning way, and put them in the wrong place if you're looking for something other than a fight or debate. Maybe your only problem is not knowing how to word things tactfully, and that's fine, but you should get on that.

ok so this is the first time i am posting on this message board and i have read every single post. Lizzy your 14 years old... you dont even know what really goes on in the real world. when i was 14 i sure didnt know much of anything. now i just saw Spring Awakening last saturday and let me tell you... you know NOTHING about this show until you see it in person at the Eugene O'Neil Theatre. So please keep your comments to yourself.
Secondly... have you not cursed one day in your entire life??? how would you feel if someone totally disrespected you because you cursed! you really need to open your eyes girlfriend... you are living one little sheltered life if you dont curse and if 1% of your school can relate to SA.
Third i would like to show you how big of a hypocrite you are

But in earlier posts this is what you said
Quote"well there's no way I'm ever paying to see this show but I will judge that scene for myself when it comes on YouTube."
Hmmmm hmmm...

Are they really? I thought I heard that they were 16 or 17. I have not actually read the play.
If I was wrong... my bad!

Maybe this is just personal for me... but I believe people should judge shows based on simply the SHOW. An actor's performance can enhance the love or appreciation of a show. And, of course, people are free to adore actors (I idolize a few of my own), but I like to think of loving (and, if you wish, "respecting") the cast as SLIGHTLY separate from loving and appreciating the show.
That's not just with SA, I think that in general.

"I must admit, becoz, I'm impressed... I thought you were older."
That makes me feel special.
People always say I look an act older than my age. Just curious, how much older did you think I was?
