Honey, sorry for the wake up call, but your mom isn't the only one in the world with a B.A. in Psychology. It's her and half of the world, most of whom don't go on to practice clinical psychology.
But that's beside the point. "Just commenting."

I agree that nudity is an art form, like in sculptures or paintings and stuff like that. Not really in movies, and sometimes in theatre, if done respectfully. But do I consider spanking an art form? No way. Even though I have not seen the show, no one, I don't care how theatrically talented they are, can EVER make spanking and all that other crap a beautiful thing. Could you imagine reading the following review:
"The score was fantastic, but by far the most gorgeous portion of Spring Awakening was the spanking & circle JO scenes. They were so moving, there was not a dry eye in the house."
hahahaha ; ) I myself am a teenager, and I am not going through any of these issues they talk about in SA. Abortion, suicide, masturbation, masochism??!! No way! There are 2 pregnant girls in my entire school of 2,800 students. These issues are only real for less than 1% of the population. In the interview Lea Michele said that these issues were real. Well, no, they are not. And it's not like someone that was on Boradway at age 9 knows what a normal kid goes through, anyway. So she should not be talking about that kind of stuff.
Think again, theaterdude.

Just because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean that it doesn't happen to other people! I can name somebody going through each of those problems at my school alone right off the bat.
Nobody said spanking was an art form, but you don't even know how the scene plays out in context! AGAIN, this is based on SOURCE MATERIAL. It was based on the play that was written 100 years ago.
EDIT//
What does her being 9 years old on Broadway have to do with anything? Why do you keep bringing that up like it proves your point or something?

Oh, and btw, I really doubt YOU'LL be paying for the show anyways. You're 14. Your PARENTS would probably be paying.

THANK YOU PARIS!! Glad to see someone else is writing exactly what I'm thinking (and is just as irritated in the process)!!
Lizzy, you're absolutely ridiculous.
Really, you should quit while you're... well... not ahead.

Also, it sounds like you keep mentioning her "being on Broadway at age 9" because you're jealous. Fine. Aren't we all. Deal with that on your own time.

I'm not jealous of her, I just think that it's sad when kids are in showbiz so early because they usually turn out seriously messed up. I was saying that it's not like she went through any of these issues because she had a show to do every night and didn't have to go to school every day like normal people.
I really do like the show. I adore the music and yes some of the issues really hit home. It's just hard for me to pay $110 for a show that I don't really know what the plotline is and not be too fond of the star.
I know that she was not directly bashing those shows, but the way she was saying it indicated that she thought her show was better than those. I mean obviously she has to advertise her show, but she shouldn't insult her fellow performers.
My only goal in life is to be on Broadway, so on the way to that I don't plan on trying to defy authority. I'm trying to focus on my voice lessons for now since I cannot sing at all. = )

The things I've said are no worse or different than that whole thread about how much everyone hates Shoshana, or the thread about sabotaging the Grease revival.

Sure but you haven't seen other schools. Maybe you don't know people who go through this stuff but there's plenty of people who do.
You should have read this before you made any judgments of her being a result of a pushy stage mother.

2. So Lea didn't go through any of these issues... that's why it's called ACTING. Neither have most people. Doesn't mean they don't exist, nor does it mean that it cannot be played convincingly.
3. Your jealousy is ridiculous. If your goal is to be on Broadway, and you're planning on being a nice little girl and playing by all the rules all the time... you're not going to get anywhere in such a cutthroat business.
4. Of course you don't know the plot line -- it's not in the cd, it's not in any clips you see... you have to actually SEE THE SHOW, which you have not... then you will know the plot and have the authority to make judgment calls. Do you really only see shows you know the complete plot along with every lyric? (I suppose that happens when what you see are Disney movies put onstage... I know the plots of those too, as do many five-year-olds.) If so, you are seriously closing yourself off to most kinds of real original conceptual revolutionary theatre, and that's a DIRE shame. Then again, maybe people with "views" such as your own shouldn't see those shows anyway. They might not appreciate them.

Read the play if you can't see the show. Spring Awakenings songs are the character's inner monologues. They don't give much insight into the plot.
"My only goal in life is to be on Broadway, so on the way to that I don't plan on trying to defy authority."
Nobody's saying have to have a criminal record. Before you plan on seeing and listening to things besides Disney Shows. You can't do Disney all the time(Ashley Brown is going to have to find something more original after MP).
Roseinthewinter, I like all the points you have made in this thread.
