This thread makes me very happy and very sad at the same time.
Jesus, I love you people.

That's not what I meant, jg. Not at all.

Sorry for the misunderstanding then. What did you mean?
Okay, for some reason, I posted this before but it's not showing up on the thread when I view it so I'll say it again:
I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking you, stageagent. I really am just wondering what touring has to do with it.
Hmm..well, I can think of one difference between Spring Awakening and Wicked. Wicked did not get a NY Drama Critics Circle Award.

Wicked and Spring Awakening are not the same because Spring Awakening does not have nearly as much talk of winning the TONY as Wicked did.
There was not one person that thought anything excpet for Wicked would win the TONY. With Spring Awakening it is not the case- there is still a big chance that Legally BLonde, Mary Poppins, or Curtains could take that award.

Does anyone have a scan of the new Spring Awakening ad from the Sunday NY Times today? It's a new one but I didn't get a chance to pick up a copy...

Oh that picture was awesome!!! I could definitely see it attracting people who normally don't see theatre that much. It had a really cool rock feel to it.
Spring Awakening is going to win, not only does it have many many people including a vast amount of celebs backing it up, it deserves to win, it's more than the it musical of the moment, it's groundbreaking and original(not fumulaic like Wicked) and will continue on and on to win people over by its moving story performed by talented and actual young adults on a universal and controversal subject.
Spring Awakening's going to be hard to beat(critically acclaimed AND a money making success).
OT: Though I do agree, Ebersole better win a Tony or else

Uhh Spring Awakening isn't original, it's based off a play...and celebs aren't the one's choosing who will win. Updated On: 5/14/07 at 02:15 AM
Well, I don't remember Wedekind writing about kids rocking out to music that would warrant a parental advisory sticker. I burst out laughing when I first heard that they would be turning Spring Awakening into a rock musical. I mean, it's not exactly the genre of music that would immediately pop into one's mind when thinking about the play. So Spring Awakening the musical is original. Even though Grey Gardens is based on a documentary, it is very original because it creates a fictional world and past for these characters. Both shows are based on existing material (and fact in the case of Grey Gardens), but both are original in their own ways. Don't you think?
And I think it's a bit unfair to call a musical unoriginal because it's based on a play. My Fair Lady, anyone? 110 in the Shade? Oklahoma!? Carousel? Hello Again? She Loves Me? Wonderful Town? Yup, all based on plays.
Edit: I realize now that you were probably making the point that Spring Awakening isn't original in the sense that it's not based on anything... But o well. Too late to take back what I said.

Christine Ebersole is the only reason Grey Gardens is going to get nominated. The show would suck if she wasn't in it. Therefore, she deserves to win for best actress, but the show does not deserve to win over Spring Awakening. And whoever said that Spring Awakening lacked emotion might want to see it again. I've seen well over 50 shows and Spring Awakening and Les Miserables are the only shows that have ever brought out any emotion in me.

LMAO!
I do agree that Christine Ebersole (and Mary Louise Wilson) make the show. And I do think that the show would be less enjoyable without them.

Grey Gardens still sucks even with Ebersole in it.
(Yes, I said it.)
