re: Sad parts of musical numbers?

On a slightly different theme ( i.e., love of country) that produces similar emotional reactions --

*Anthem (CHESS)
*God's Own Country ( THE BEAUTIFUL GAME)
*I Still Call Australia Home ( THE BOY FROM OZ)

Les Mis: Little Fall of Rain, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, Bring Him Home, the Finale....ok, basically all of Les Mis. It isn't the happiest of all musicals, is it? hah.

Rent: I start crying at Without You, and I literally don't stop until the end. Without You really tears me up..Angel on the hospital bed. And of course I have to contain audible sobs during Maureen's eulogy and the I'll Cover You reprise.

Wicked: For Good, of course. And Defying Gravity - I bawled my eyes out when I saw it. Just because it's so powerful, and seeing it performed for the first time really blew me away and it was really emotional.

Bare: Though I haven't seen it, the first time I listened to the whole show..I was crying hysterically at the end. (Ok, maybe not hysterically. But a lot.)

...I cry a lot. haha

Collin's "it's over" at the end of Contact.

Pretty much all of Les Mis.

"Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again"

My dad has been gone for a lot of years now, but when I hear this song the mourning starts all over again. It really hits me in the heart.

Yeah I'm pretty teary eyed from the beginning of Without You and on but I'll Cover You: Reprise, Your Eyes and the finale really gets me. re: Sad parts of musical numbers? And For Good from Wicked.
I wanted to get something that an "ex"-junkie like him would really appreciate and cherish....it's a brick of heroin shaped like a heart. -Scrubs

Marius: "And I can hear them now,
The very words that they had sung.
Became their last reunion.
A lonely barricade at dawn"

The Aftermath oboe solo in Les Miz.

Radames: I'm so tired of all we're going through
I don't want to live like that
I'm so tired of all we're going through
I don't wanna love, like that
I just want to be with you!

Fantine: Can this be?
Valjean: How will she end?
This child without a friend.
I've seen your face before
Show me some way to help you
How have you come to grieve
In such a place as this
Fantine: (yes I did skip a part)
I never did no wrong
Valjean: Is it true what I've done?
Fantine: My daughter's close to dying
Valjean: To an innocent soul
Fantine: If there's a God above
Valjean: Had I only known then
Fantine: He'd let me die, instead...

Kim: How in one night, have we come, so far...

Man there I so many

The Phantom of The Opera: "Christine I Love You." (Christines is bring the ring back to him and her and Raul start singing) Gets me every time.

Wicked: "It well maybe that we will never meet again in this lifetime, so let me say before we part so much of me is made from what I learned from you, You'll be with me like a handprint on my heart and now whatever way are stories end I know you have re-written mine by being my friend" That is a tear jerker for me.

Les Miserables: All of it in general.

re: Sad parts of musical numbers?

You guys are listing everything that makes me cry when I just think about it!

One no ones mentioned- "Stranger to the Rain" from Children of Eden
Also, "No One is Alone" from Into the Woods"

I'm such a sap. Whoever said that defying gravity makes them cry, I agree, especially live. I get so connected to that song, it's a tear jerker for me.

The end of "Stars and the Moon"
"Without Jews, fags, and gypsies, there is no theatre!" ~Mel Brooks, To be or not to be
