my two friends and I are planning an overnight trip to NYC after our prom. We will be unchaperoned, and we want to make sure that as 3 girls, we pick a safe and economic hotel location. We also need a place that will allow us to reserve a room at age 18, and share one room amongst 3. Suggestions? thanks!
Portland Square.
My apartment... free, safe and next to times square! Let me know!!
The Pod Hotel is about a 15 minute walk (on 51 between 2nd and 3rd) but is very economical and fun.
shouldnt this be on the OT board?
I agree w/ the Portland Square. Just got back from staying there. Good prices, safe and comfortable beds. If you want a private bath be sure to ask for one. You can't beat the location and price.
The Pod is great but one tip. Book through Expedia.com they always have much cheaper prices than the hotel's website. I'm staying there in 2 weeks and I originally booked a single with shared bathroom through the website. I was looking around last week and just found a Queen sized room with a private bathroom and after using a promo code (Fan50) I payed only $3 more for a bigger room with my own bathroom. Also its a very hip hotel for young travelers. I love staying there!
It isn't a real New York experience until you sleep with the hobos & fearing that you'll be stabbed by one. Ohhhhh the adrenaline!!
I stayed at The Pod hotel last year, and I must say it is one of the "hippest" hotels I have ever stayed at. And it's basically right down the street from a police station. I will definitely try to book a room at The Pod hotel for whenever I return to NYC.
Every hotel in Times Square is safe.
This isn't Law & Order.
Real Life NYC is safe.
When we took our trip. The Hotel Edison was just half a block away from time square. And it seemed pretty safe. Also it one building away from the Brooks Atkinson. And right across the street from the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

Soooo creepy, but I LOLed.
If you want safe and cheap, the Chelsea Lodge is a good choice. But it's obviously not in Times Sq.

If you do go there... be ready to see some performers there, that's where most stay and here Scientology protests every now and then being that the Church of Scientology is next to it as well; that is, if you have a room facing that way.
If price isn't a problem.... Marriott Marquis is in the dead centre of times square along seventh avenue, and is safe.
I recommmend The Hotel Edison or The Belvedere Hotel.
B3TA - Thanks... :)
But, seriously dramagirl487, the offer still stands. Remember, there are some straight guys in theatre too!

I agree with Hotel Edison. Great place to stay, and it is in the middle of 5 theaters.
If price is a factor, you may want to look outside of Times Square.
Has anyone ever stayed at any of these hotels?
Portand Square Hotel
The Moderne
The Amsterdam Court
I'm finding great rates and wanted some feedback! Thanks
I could swear Portland Square WAS ALREADY MENTIONED IN THIS THREAD...
Just maybe.
Sorry...I hopped over to expedia and forgot to recheck before I posted. Finding a room there for UNDER a 100 bucks!

Check Travelzoo.com for specials as your dates get closer. They frequently have specials posted for a number of Midtown hotels.
I've had great success with Priceline.com. The hotels listed in the Times Square area are all convenient, and any 3 star or above would be fine. I've gotten a 4 star hotel in Times square for $140/night, and people have reported getting 3 star hotels under $100.
any one that advertises "short stays" is a good one.
As far as I'm concerned, the Paramount Hotel is great
