Sally Struthers
re: Sally Struthers#25
Posted: 9/6/05 at 3:17pmI would have loved to have caught her as Miss Hannigan. I heard only fantastic things - wish she could have done it on Broadway instead of the completely humorless Ms. Carter.

Oh wow, you're right. I would have died to see Loudon play Hannigan. I would have died to see her do ANYTHING live. I've only seen videos.
And the resemblance between Sally and Ginger Spice in that other picture is crazy.

Posted: 9/6/05 at 3:31pmI've never really seen a 'thin' Miss Mona. She should be voluptuous and curvy in my eyes.

Posted: 9/6/05 at 3:33pmSally knocked 'em dead as Gooch in MAME here in SoCal - including the reveal when she gets her makeover. I think she'll be great.

I saw Sally Struthers in the Grease tour.
She was good.

Was she Rizzo?
From all of you, she sounds great.

Oh dear Lord no, this was the 1995-ish revival tour.
She was Miss Lynch.

The only time I've seen her onstage was in a dress rehearsal for a musical called Only a Kingdom...Crista Moore was in it too. Struthers was delightful.

Posted: 9/6/05 at 3:55pmThat theater is only about 10 minutes for me. I wanted to audition but I am in the middle of student teaching right now and didn't know if I could handle all that at the moment. Would've been fun though!

Posted: 9/6/05 at 6:07pmShe's also great in her recurring role as the passive-agressive mother-in-law from hell on Still Standing.

Yo....
I was wondering when this would pop up on here.
Let me tell you, she makes a GREAT Miss Mona. And I'm not saying that just because I'm in the show with her. Not only does she nail the comedy and drawl but her singing is totally solid.
The first time she did "The Bus From Amarillo" I got choked up.
I was skeptical before she joined our rehearsals but this role is actually a better fit for her than Dolly Levi (which she was great in too).
To top it off, she's one of the most down-to-earth, funniest, hardest-working people I've gotten to work with.
Since the show is sold out do not consider this a shill -- if she wasn't good I would say so. But I think she does a mighty fine job!
Hope some of you have tickets!
Oh...and in case you are wondering...she looks a tad like Mae West in her first outfit and wears a red fringe jacket and red boots for the finale. I'll see if we have pictures that we can release.
Actually...take a look at this page. The costumes she is wearing are the same ones she wears in our show. Our costumer made them for her in advance to take with her to Maine (where she did the show earlier this summer) Different wig, though. =)

I did "Mame" with Sally Struthers 3 years ago at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach. She was Gooch and literally stopped the show every night when she sang "Gooch's Song." Her timing, talent and graciousness, was wonderful. A very, very nice lady!!!!
Whatever role Sally does, she's ALWAYS great in it!!!

re: Sally Struthers#42
Posted: 9/6/05 at 7:54pmGreat to hear that Struthers is not only talented but gracious and kind. I have always believed that her "All in the Family" work was underappreciated, she really was a hoot!

Posted: 9/6/05 at 8:08pmI saw Ms. Struthers as Miss Mona at the Ogunquit Playhouse last month. She did a wonderful job and she seems like a very nice lady. I hear she is a fabulous Dolly and Miss Hannagan.
re: Sally Struthers#45
Posted: 9/6/05 at 8:36pmShe needs to come to Broadway!
re: Sally Struthers#46
Posted: 9/6/05 at 8:46pmI'm glad Struthers has a sense of humor after all the unfair fat jokes people maker her the butt of. I don't find them funny. I think she has forged a great little career for herself as a musical theatre performer.
re: Sally Struthers#47
Posted: 9/6/05 at 9:52pmI've never seen her perform. But, to play devil's advocate--If she's as talented and gracious as everyone says, with her name recognition, why hasn't she been on Broadway? I mean, if Suzanne Sommers...
re: Sally Struthers#48
Posted: 9/6/05 at 9:55pmBecause Somers has Thigh-Master money and can afford to produce a show for herself.
re: Sally Struthers#49
Posted: 9/6/05 at 9:57pmOK, let me rephrase that. I mean, if ROBIN GIVENS...
