It doesn't matter what theatre they want. Almost nobody gets their first choice of theatre, even Sam Mendes –– especially for a play that could conceivably run at any playhouse in the 1000-seat range. It's all a matter of scheduling, money, and landlord interest.
From the start, the Burton/Taylor of it all has always seemed more sellable to the general public than HILLS OF CALIFORNIA, which feels more like a vanity project for Jez Butterworth and Laura Donnelly.
