two ladies tickets said: "The poor ticket sales of Hills of California, even though it has a different set of producers, but is also a Mendes show, combined with the already discussed fact that Motivehas no bankable Broadway stars, and they weren't able to get the theatre they wanted will probably put this transfer off until next spring if it ever happens at all."
It doesn't matter what theatre they want. Almost nobody gets their first choice of theatre, even Sam Mendes –– especially for a play that could conceivably run at any playhouse in the 1000-seat range. It's all a matter of scheduling, money, and landlord interest.
From the start, the Burton/Taylor of it all has always seemed more sellable to the general public than HILLS OF CALIFORNIA, which feels more like a vanity project for Jez Butterworth and Laura Donnelly.

Um...then they might want to tell the producers of The Picture of Dorian Gray, as that production is already selling tickets for their opening at The Music Box.
