Posted: 9/30/12 at 4:40pmI am confused...if she was Annie on Broadway that would have required a strong voice I would think...she cant hold a note an has a really bad voice now...was she that much better as a kid or just a great actress in the part as a kid

Judge for yourself.
This is Sarah Jessica Parker (at age 17) about 3 years after she left ANNIE and keep in mind, puberty changes people quite a bit:

Though she doesn't sing on this clip, here she is at age 14 when she was actually in ANNIE:

There used to be clips of her performing ANNIE songs on TV specials during her run in ANNIE, but they seem to have been taken down. Hmmm.

I think she sings fine. She's not really a belter, but she has a pretty tone to her voice.

I think she did really well in that clip. People's idea of what constitutes good singing is warped. It's as if not finding a vocal to your liking and someone not being able to sing are the same thing.
And the comments below that clip are extremely cruel.

She CAN sing. That much should be obvious, but I guess different strokes for different folks. I think her voice is just fine. It's nothing special, but a lot of people have gotten by with a lot less. Her voice might not have been right for Once Upon A Mattress (well, even her acting style wasn't right for that role), but she did the best that she could and at least sounds listenable.
There are certain voices I don't care for, a la Lea Michelle, but I'd never say she couldn't sing. I just don't like something about her voice.

Posted: 9/30/12 at 8:27pmI think she can sing, I just wonder if she thinks so. She's got a good voice in there somewhere, it just seems like every time she sings it sounds like she learned how to sing that morning.

Posted: 10/1/12 at 9:27amShe can carry a tune. "Singing" generally means something better than what she does. Even vibrato-free Stritch, however, always had 100 times more musicality than Parker ever did. She and her husband are two of the laziest performers of our times.

Posted: 10/1/12 at 10:12amCan we clear something up please..I agree that this is just my opinion and I may have a WARPED point of view..but what I was really asking was if she was ANNIE and all of the Annies basically copied Andrea McArdle singing style they would have had to have a BELT...SJP has a wisper thin voice and I cant see her being ANNIE and wondered if she ever had a big voice..( I may have stated this wrong) I did not want to start a she can/she cant sing war ... just wondering ...I personally like someone who is a singer singing wrather than and actor that can kind of sing...when it comes to Broadway...I still love the Andrea McArdle type of singers who can really belt when needed..Again JUST MY HUMBLE IF WARPED OPINION ...
