Sardi's to Unveil Stephanie J. Block Caricature (VIDEO!!)

"Stephanie J. Block, who received a 2006 Helen Hayes Award for her performance in the national tour of Wicked, will soon add another honor to her list of credits.

On June 14 Block will be feted at Sardi's when her caricature is unveiled at the famed restaurant. Block's caricature will join the illustrious walls of this favorite Broadway eatery at 5:30 PM.

Stephanie J. Block is currently starring in the new Broadway musical The Pirate Queen, which ends its run June 17. The singing actress created the role of Liza Minnelli in the Peter Allen biomusical The Boy From Oz. She portrayed Elphaba in the national tour of Wicked, earning a Helen Hayes Award for her performance. Block's regional credits include Funny Girl, Crazy for You (L.A. Ovation Award nomination), Oliver (Critics Award, Best Actress) and James Joyce's The Dead.

Block will next appear in the workshop of the new musical 9 to 5, based on the film of the same name.

Sardi's is located in New York City at 234 West 44th Street."

"You get a Sardi's portrait for being in two broadway shows now?"

Suzanne Somers got one, and her show never even opened! The prestige of having a Sardi's portrait is gone gone gone ... They might as well do portraits of the ushers.

Melody - I don't know the answer to your question. Here's some interesting trivia from wikipdia in the meantime until someone can enlighten us:

According to actor Robert Cuccioli's spokesperson Judy Katz, in an interview with Playbill: "On the day Jimmy Cagney died, his caricature was stolen from the Sardi's wall. Since then, when drawings are done, the originals go into a vault, and two copies are made. One goes to the lucky subject of the caricature, the other up on the Sardi's wall. This way, potential thieves won't have their moment."

Alright, I'm a dork and called to ask.

It's completely up to Max Klimavicious, the owner, to decide who gets the honor. It has nothing to do with how many credits or awards someone has. Once he feels a certain person has "made a name for themselves" (and they've eaten there) he can decide to send a letter inviting them to have thier caricature put up.

Sounds like a broadway actor's unofficial rite of passage or something.

Congragulations to Stephanie! She deserves it- though she hasn't done a whole lot on Broadway, she is a pretty up and coming star, so that's really awesome she's getting this!
It'll be a little bit of joy for her to get this in such a sad week for PIRATE QUEEN...

I wonder what hers will look like. I was disappointed in Rauls, but maybe hers will be a bit more fun

re: Sardi's to Unveil Stephanie J. Block Caricature (PICTURES UP!)

Not sure if all the links are bad on her website, but when I click on the small picture, it opens to a large one of SB in front of potrait of LIZA! Caption says "Stephanie Block in front of her portrait at Sardies."

Hope they fix this ASAP!

Now THAT is a caricature! Well done! They're getting 'em right again.

Suzanne Somers got one, and her show never even opened!

Suzanne's show did open. It got panned up the wazoo and closed in a few days, but it did open.

Oops -- the one I was referring to was the Petterino's one. The Sardi's one on her website is of Liza Minelli, though the caption says, "Stephanie with her caricature at Sardi's."

Edit: I see it now. It's after the Liza one. Since when does Stephanie have red hair?
