Scary Musicals

What musicals were really scary like plot was thrilling and about murder or something.

I would say Jekyll and Hyde was pretty scary for me. Seeing him kill Lucy and all those people was really heartwrenching.

This is going to sound completely retarded but...

when i was little and saw EVITA- i went in with expectations about it being about a heroine who frees the people- all like che guevera (or however u spell it) n'stuff...then the beginning started and they were all wailing out her name (requiem evita i think its called)- i was like :| The whole first scene...it was SO creepy and disturbing!! I was only 11 or 12 and there was a dead woman on stage!! And it just looked and sounded so creepy!

That was also the first time i found out not ALL musicals end up happy where everybody wins and the bad guy goes to jail or something.... :S

Sweeny is scary to me, although I also love it.
Dracula could be considerd scary, as well as Witches of Eastwick. The Woman in White also seems a little scary.

"Woman In Black" is not a musical.

ASSASSINS can be pretty creepy/scary. Also the second act of INTO THE WOODS.

For that matter, consider the last 15 minutes of OLIVER:
a: Bill Sikes brutally beats Nancy to death.
b: He kidnaps Oliver and carries him to the roof of a building (or a bridge in some productions), telling the police he's throw the kidd to his death if they don't back off.
c: Oliver manages to squirm his way loose for a split second, and Sikes is shot, plummeting to his death.

Pretty intense stuff - especially for a show aimed at kids!

Mmmm. "Woman in White" wasn't scary for me when I saw it. Actually, I was a bit bored by it until "All for Laura", Maria Friedman's big song before intermission. Maybe it had to do with Crawford being out and feeling like the understudy just wasn't QUITE seizing Fosco... but I just sorta drifted through the show until then. Act II was far superior, IMO.

Lesse... what HAS scared me... I guess if you were younger, "Jekyll and Hyde" might be scary, yeah. However, at the time I saw the show I was pretty infatuated with the score, so I was more thrilled than terrified.

Sweeney Todd scares the crap out of me, my dream would be to see it on halloween:)
There are definatley some creepy parts of Woman in White. My dog agrees, we were listening to it the car and when he heard the thunder he started to freak (keep in mind this is an 80 lb dog).

Yeah. We listened to it.

I was scared. But she spoke German so it was different I assume.

I HAVE Starlight Express Auf Deutsch. Pretty scary! :-p

Actually less scary then the English version since you can at least pretend it isn't a musical about trains!

Someone mentioned that Oliver! is aimed at kids. No, it's not. It's an musical for adults. Just because kids are in it doesn't mean it's written for their level of understanding.

Same goes for The Music Man and The Sound Of Music, both of which are thought of as being children's shows by some people I've run across over the years.

If you're younger I would say maybe alittle bit of Fiddler on The Roof could be scary what with the wedding being crashed and them getting thrown out of town.

I was in Fiddler two years back and I remember a little girl saying that she didn't like the dream sequence because it scared her. Poor thing.

Sweeney Todd is the most frightening musical ever written, IMO. But is incomparably phenomenal.

Also: Phantom can be pretty terrifying (the 2nd act, mostly)

The first time I saw Fiddler (when I was somewhere around 7), the dream sequence did terrify me.

Sweeney is more twisted than scary to me...
