"Good Vibrations! lol-no just kidding"
I second that but I'm being serious. Scared the living sh** out of me.
I'm going with Sweeney, too. The first time I saw it, I was actually horrified. I loved it, but was horrified.
I have to agree with whoever said Evita was scary. I saw that as a kid, and to this day I can't see the show or even watch the movie without getting wigged out.
You have to understand what really scares me--horror movies such as the Ring don't scare me at all, I laugh, but a television movie about an abusive teenage relationship where the boyfriend kills the girlfriend--terrifying.
This in mind, I think Cabaret hast to be up there as the scariest. The simple fact of how Hal Prince described it in Broadway the American Musical, where people are, terrible things could happen. That's scary.
I watched "Sweeney Todd" by myself one night at my house and it sorta scared me cause of the music and Sweeney himself(George Hearns)...yeah I guess its kinda scary.
"The Little Shop of Horrors" used to scary me awhole lot when I was younger...that one did it for me.

None for me.
I didn't think Sweeney was scary at all...twisted yes...odd yes...even a little bit amusing at parts. I know, I know, I have a sick sense of humor.
I think Jekyll & Hyde gets as close as it comes to "scary" for me - though I've yet to have a musical thoroughly frighten me.

Sweeney Todd gets my vote, too. Fascinating like a train wreck, a brilliantly bent score, but creepy as they come. Eerie & odd.
I may be nuts (and there are LOTS of people who'll swear to it) but I found the part in Pippin, where he's contemplating suicide as a grand, extraordinary gesture, then offers the torch to the audience, scary. I was always scared that some nut in the audience might take him up on it. I think I'd be afraid to do that scene today. Love the score to that show, though.
when i was little i was scared to death of tommy - i still don't know how those little tommy actors did it. the whole idea of it is so frightening ... person who you thought your dad was gets killed, this new guy is your dad .. you become autistic because your parents tell you to .. raped by your uncle ... ick.

I saw the original Jekyll and Hyde when I was young, and it scared the crap out of me. The murders were much more violent, especially Lucy's. Her white dress and white bed sheets were just covered in blood by the end. Other than that, I can't really think of any other shows that are "scary."

Parade scared me at times. Jim Conley? YES, he skeered me.

No one thinks Phantom was scary? It scared me to death when I was eight! I wouldn't walk up the stairs alone!!
I don't think any musical is really scary.
As a child, the dream part of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF creeped me out. They did it at The Music Hall in Houston, and the entire stage was covered in leaves. Sarah came flying up from a hidden trap, and that startled me. Her singing kept me unnerved as she was shrill (like she is supposed to be) and haunting.
The Broadway Tour of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS was far from scary, but overhearing two tween girls complain about how it wasn't scary at all and should have it's title changed made me chuckle to myself. I was sad that Anthony Rapp had dropped out of the tour right before it came to Houston, so that kind of made it a little better.
WHen I was 11 or so and younger, what used to scare me most was anything supernatural. So yeah, as a 6 or 7 year old the Dream in Fiddler scared me, and Little Shop terrified me (it showed at a 7 year old's birthday party and I remember I had to go into the other room with the birthday kid's mom once Seymour started chopping up Mushnick--actually I think the dentist stuff scared me more than the plant...)
For me, Sweeney is more spooky or creepy (an unnerving) than full on scary, but I didn't hear it till I was 11 (I do remember on record, the whole final part--like Mrs Lovett trying to lure Toby out did really creep me out.) The Prince production on DVD wasn't all that scary, I thought, but just a yer or two later I saw the National THeatre production in London (the one with Julia McKenzie and Denis Quilley that was recorded for BBC radio) and I did find that production "jump out of your seat" scary--it was done so intimately with people literally popping up right beside you, etc. Lots of fun.
Otherwise I guess I can think of musicals that unnerved me--like Assassins. Though I saw Phantom when I was 10, it didn't scare me, maybe only a few parts slightly like the reveal of the body hanging from the noose.
Howabout Dracula the Musical or Lestat? Or any vampire musical? :P
Honestly, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is still the scariest musical film that I have ever seen...I kind of have a problem with the scenes where Seymour is still feeding the Audrey II from his fingers...but I guess for me seeing the blood in that film just kind of bothers me. The SWEENEY TODD film was no problem for me, though. Maybe the blood looked just fake enough not to get to me.
Not going to lie, CATS scares me a bit.
Sweeney Todd is an obvious one as well.
I have yet to be truly scared by a musical, few things scare me.
I did find the film adaptation of Sweeney quite chilling. The Hal prince DVD, although genius, wasn't nearly as scary for me.
Phantom was also very creepy for me when I first saw it.
I do find Cabaret and some parts of Cats to be very creepy, but not at all scary. And I agree with the requiem in Evita being uber creepy.
Oh, yeah, I do find Phantom of the Opera scary in some ways. Just the overture and the hanging during the ballet.
Ever since I was little, one of my biggest fears has been someone dying during a show. (and throwing up on stage but that's a different story).
Being a huge fan of horror movies I've always gravitated to the more scary musicals if there even is one.
I saw Into the Woods when I was around 7 at my local high school and the second act made me lose sleep at night.
And I did cry in my mothers lap when I was about 4 at a cabaret where they performed the title song from "The Phantom of the Opera" and for some reason that made me really scared.
Oh and Hair made me unnerved because audience participation gives me anxiety (even though I'm a performer myself).
Mary Poppins.......terrified she would fall down and crush me to death as she did her fly-by at the end.
So Relieved it closed! I've been sleeping better since then!
Cats and some of Cabaret creepy, yes, but Evita? Really? They are mourning her death and recognizing her life in Requiem, I don't see the scariness of it.
Well the theme itself isn't scary but the music, costumes and the way that it's staged is VERY creepy. In the recent Broadway revival they were all wearing black and it was all really dark except for some sort of light the actors were holding. Easily one of my favorites moments in the show.
