Trust me I love it to and really liked the revival. Guess I see what your saying, but not the same type of scary as I think the original poster was asking about.

The dream sequence in the film of FIDDLER did scare me a bit when I was younger.
Oddly, when I was kid listening to the OCR of HAIR, several pieces gave me deep creeps. "Riiiiiped open by metal ex plo sion.... caught in barbed wire..." Not a 'scary' show, of course -- but it did send my imagination into some very dark places when I was a kid.
Oh -- and THE ADDING MACHINE was very unsettling. It had the creepiness of a David Lynch film.
