Sebastian Arcelus will succeed Daniel Reichard in the role of Bob Gaudio in the Broadway hit Jersey Boys on Thursday, January 10. The show currently stars Michael Longoria, Christian Hoff, and J. Robert Spencer.
Arcelus is currently playing the role of Fiyero in Wicked. His other Broadway credits include Rent and Good Vibrations and he has appeared in productions of The Full Monty, Aida, and Floyd Collins.
The show, which tells the story of the music group The Four Seasons, is directed by Des McAnuff. It was first produced at the La Jolla Playhouse and opened at Broadway's August Wilson Theater on November 6, 2005. It won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Musical.
I'm sorry...but is anyone else kind of shocked by this casting choice??? I just don't see him in this role at all. I love his voice, he's so talented...but I just don't see him as Bob!
iheartamc10 - The real question should be is there a haircut in his future?! C'mon, let's focus on the more important questions here people! I'm sure he'll be great
I love Sebastian as he is super talented, really nice and he is one of my favorite Rogers is Rent but I don't see this casting at all. I was really shocked.

Good for Sebastian! He is a great talent and this would be the perfect time for him to shine now! I'm so glad. I cannot wait to go see it April vacation again and see him in Daniel's role :)
Hopefully he'll be more impressive in JB than in Wicked. He was pretty mediocre.
And you think of all of the things you've seen, and you wish that you could live in between ,and you're back again only different than before...

I am rather surprised to hear people say that Arcelus is a surprise choice for the role.
From the little I've seen of him, I think his voice suits the score extremely well.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Daniel doesn't have a solo CD... sadly... but there are lots of YouTube videos...
And it isn't so much that his voice doesn't suit the part (not that I like his voice but regardless he can hit the notes), it's the fact he is not right for the part and is a pretty "eh" actor.... Just bad bad bad...
mimi - It doesn't sound like you'll go see the show so I'm probably talking to deaf ears (or typing to blind eyes?), but there is something very special about going into a show with zero to low expectations and then being pleasantly surprised. I hope that's what happens in this case for all those questioning the casting. Can't really say much more than that as I've never seen him live - but I do wish him the best!
Popular.... I've seen the man in both Wicked AND Rent, and seen Jersey Boys maaaaany times. There would be very little surprise in my spending my time to see a man I know I don't like in a role that I love. K Thanks!
