Posted: 6/7/09 at 12:15amSunday matinees always seem to go on as per usual, but actually, the fun thing about seeing a show on Tony Day--if you can stick around--is watching the actors and actresses emerge from the stage door all revved up and dressed to kill on their way from the theater to the Tonys, as you applaud and tell them you wish them luck...

Posted: 6/7/09 at 1:59amTwo (I think?) years ago, I saw Sweeney on the day of the Tonys. It was excellent as usual. It was a fun show, too. Everyone was very pumped for that night. Very cool. Updated On: 2/15/14 at 01:59 AM

Question about that - so the actors who perform at the Tonys get all dressed up, then have to take off their finery, mess up their perfect hair, and put on garish stage makeup for the performance?

Posted: 6/7/09 at 3:34pm^ that's up to the actor, I believe. last year Patti LuPone didn't do the red carpet, which leads me to believe she went over to Radio City in her costume and got dressed after she performed. I know other actors have done that in the past, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

The union regulations will not allow actors to wear their stage costumes outside the theater, so don't expect the cast of HAIR to be prancing down to Radio City in their 60's get-uos. They may leave their HAIR makeup on, but thier costumes will be brought down under the care of the costumes crew and they'll suit up backstage at the Tony's.
Remember the problems they had a few years ago when they wanted the cast of 42nd STREET to wear their costumes in the subway for a special opening sequence?

Posted: 6/7/09 at 6:49pmI wouldn't be surprised if hair does that anyway. I just saw kacie shiek on 42nd street in the same outfit she was in at the stagedoor. Considering a lot of actors showed up to radio city already, that might be a clue.

Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:18pmThanks for all the information! I wish I had seen the HAIR matinee today, but I didn't. Ugh. I'm sure it would have been amazing. I saw Avenue Q instead, which was great to see anyways, since I'd never seen it.
