I really despise most RENT heads. Yes, th eoriginal cast was amazing, but once they elave get over it. And you ppl weren't there friends! They may ahve been nice to you but still, get a freakin grip!

Amneris~

Laurie Anderson still performs, but over the years she has really moved out of the mainstream and into very experimental projects, hence the lack of coverage towards her more recent endeavors.

This thread is absolutely appalling. I can't believe people would actually BOO in a theatre. I can't comprehend it. I didn't see Idina, Kristen, or Sherie in the role, but I know that I would give a whole lot of money to see Sherie play that. I think she is one of the most talented people in theatre. And no one can have a legitimate excuse for booing in a theatre.

I've seen severeal Maureens from various casts, and Sherie's Take Me or Leave Me (with Gwen something) I believe, was one of my favorites It was AMAZING. She blew the roof off. I don't understand those that say she doesn't have the voice for it. No one booed that time I saw her. I find that absolutely disgusting. I'm sure they're beloved Idina would have no respect for such disrectful behavior.

Yeah, that's.... just sad. No one should get booed onstage for having a different take on a particular role, ever.

That said, reading this I don't think I would have liked Sherie's interpretation of Maureen, even though I like her as a performer. I really hated Maureen when I saw Rent for the first time (tour a couple of years ago). The actress I saw played Maureen as just stupid and ditzy, and tried way too hard to be goofy. I like Idina's Maureen (based on the movie) much more, and I think that over the years her approach of taking herself completely seriously and being sincere about the role (which is really the only redeeming thing about Maureen) has gotten lost in favor of going for cheaper laughs.

Give me a break dude, as ive stated art is created to evoke an EMOTION out of people, GOOD or BAD, and SHERIE SUCKED as Maureen and I have no qualms to say it. "If you got nothing good to say don't say it at all" what a freaking laugh. And plenty more than 20-30 people hated her, trust me I know I was there, and she also sucked in AIDA. Too bad im not having liberal guilt in expressing MY OPINIONS which I have the right to express.

Okay people, Sherie was never booed while she was on stage, she was rarely mooed at because people didn't like her, most of the comments of hating Sherie remained outside of the theatre, and usually told to Kristin personally. When Kristen played Maureen whe was cheered and she got the loudest Mooing I've ever heard alot more than Idina did. Many sent in audio bootlegs to the theatre of Kristen performing Over the Moon and Sherie performing Over the Moon to show how much more the audience (renthead or not) like Kristen better.

So, basically, the Rentheads resented Sherie from the get go because she wasn't a) Idina or b) Idina's understudy, Kristen Lee Kelly, so she really could do no right in there eyes.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Now, this is just speculation. Based on nothing. But perhaps they cast Sherie because they knew how beloved Idina was. Kristen's Maureen is relatively similar to Idina's, right? So maybe they wanted something completely different so (they thought) the two couldn't be compared. Like when my highschool did Les Mis back in the day and followed it up with Anything Goes. The two are so drastically different, they can't reasonably be compared. Maybe their reasoning just backfired on them? Again, just speculation.

"`I grow old... I grow old... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.` What does that mean, Mr. Marlowe?" "Not a bloody thing. It just sounds good." He smiled. "That is from the `Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.` Here's another one. `In the room women come and go/Talking of Michael Angelo.' Does that suggest anything to you, sir?" "Yeah -- it suggests to me that the guy didn't know very much about women." "My sentiments exactly, sir. Nonetheless I admire T. S. Eliot very much." "Did you say, 'nonetheless'?" - The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler

I remember when the New York Times went back to re-review the new cast members and the critic RAVED about Sherie with little praise for anyone else. I'm sure there was even a big picture of her as "Maureen" along with the review. Am I the only one who recalls this? I'm sure there's a link for the review somewhere.
