I enjoy it for the most part. I think it would make for a fun Benefit/Concert. Not necessarily a show, but if they had performers do those songs in concert I would go.

I enjoy it purely because of the presence of Nathan Lane. However, its not something I listen to often. Nathan and Bernadette are fine.
There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

I found it to be rather mediocre. I agree with the concert v/s staged production as well.

As far as flop musical recordings go, I highly recommend "Breakfast At Tiffany's" over "Sherry" by a mile unless you already have it. I have both recordings and seldom listen to "Sherry". The fun about "Breakfast At Tiffany's" is that it's really like two shows in one. There's the score to "Holly Golightly" (the show's original name when it played out of town) and the new score used when David Merrick decided to revamp the show and hired Edward Albee to rewrite a more darker book before it's Broadway debut (which never happened since Merrick closed it in its N.Y. previews). Both shows have listening value but I'm still a bigger fan of Bob Merrill's underated score for "Tiffany's".

I love the Sherry! CD. I mean, Mike Myers is on it so I had to buy it if for no other reason then for him, but I ended up actually liking it which I wasn't expecting. I love all of the performances and all of the songs are enjoyable with a few gems like "Why Does The Whole Damn World Adore Me?", "Sherry", "I Always Stay At The Ritz", "Putty In Your Hands" and "Imagine That"... fun stuff.

I'd like to think that Lipton was motivated entirely by the need to preserve his work - and rightly so, since he worked so hard on it. But to hear him talk you'd think he found the lost Sondheim score... or someother lost theatrical treature.
Sherry turned out to be pretty much unnecessary...at best it an example of what not to adapt and how not to adapt it.

Was anyone else skeptical of Lipton's story about the score being "lost" and then rediscovered. It sounded like a publicity hoax to me.

I have Sherry and think its just adorable! I love Carol and Bernadette in their respective roles and while the music isn't mindblowing, its enjoyable and fun! The lyrics and storyline are also quite clever.

I really like...more and more in fact, upon repeat listenings. I think that if it were ever to be produced, a LOT of trimming would have to take place. But as a listening experience, it's VERY Broadway and a just a lot of fun.
I didn't even mind Bernadette Peters on it. :)

I orchestrated the title song for Bruce Kimmel's LOST IN BOSTON 1, and it's my memory that the composer Laurence Rosenthal who gave Bruce the piano-vocal thought the original materials were lost as well, which was why I scored it. In the case of "Waiting" from THE KING & I, all I had to do was fill in missing bars in the Bennett orchestra score that had been cut out of the piano-vocal score.

I'd love to hear it one day, but The Man Who Came to Dinner is such a tightly constructed play that musical numbers, unless incorporated brilliantly, would slow down the show.

I think it's pretty awful. No wonder it shuttered so quickly. And why did they get Carol Burnett to do the Lorraine Sheldon part? Why not Patti LuPone or Betty Buckley? I like Carol but she's just not much of a singer, IMO. But back to Sherry -- it's second rate at best. Like one of the previous people said, I have not been able to listen to the whole thing. I say no to a concert version and most definitely no to a revival. I heard Lipton in an interview say he would like to see a movie made of it, but I think he's just dreaming!! [Either that or he's on something!]
