Here's a story from Playbill.com, that vocals for Brooke Shields and Jennifer Hope Wills will be recorded and dropped into the DRG recording of Wonderful Town, producing a "second" Broadway revival cast recording.

Does Brooke have it in her contract that a new cast recording can be made with her vocals if she chooses? They did the same thing with the Grease! cast recording, as I recall.
This definitely signifies that Brooke may be staying with Wonderful Town for a while, even past her January 30 announced leave. But YAY! for all of the Wonderful Town news today!

amen to that Lorings.. it's very VERY odd.
I haven't seen her in WT but I'm convinced by all the reviews that she is excellent in the role, character-wise. but a vocal virtuoso she is not. strange days. maybe next time John Stamos takes over a role, he can release a companion video on speaking Chinese or dancing en pointe.

So, my next question would be - what other shows would you have liked to have a second recording made of? Chita and Liza in Chicago (original) would have been cool...
that certainly would have been a good cast to record. though, if I'm not mistaken, Liza only covered the role for a month as a favor to Fosse when Gwen was sick, on the condition that they not advertise that she was in the show. i bet those were some surprised audience members!

Thank Goddess they are re-recording the vocals because everyone knows Donna Murphy can't sing!

I was hoping they'd do the same thing when Eric McCormack took over the lead in the MUSIC MAN revival a few years ago. He gave a marvelous performance.

Alright. A question for you WT fans: I am eventually going to buy the cast recording, which one should I get? The Donna one or the Brooke one?
I have the recording with Donna, and I saw Brooke. Get the recording with Donna, timote.
UMMM! HELLO!
Has anyone HEARD her on the GREASE! recording...if I were apart of the original cast of Wonderful Town I would be SO offended and embarrased right now! This is disgusting. She's BROOKE SHEILDS! She's not THAT famous,,,why in the name of all that's holy is a seperate cast recording required! This is so stupid. She is God Awful in GREASE! and That re-recorded cast recording is laughable. This is just rediculous.
all kidding aside, if it's the CD you're after, get the one with Donna. if there's one thing the gal can do, it's sing wonderfully. she might not always show up to work, but when she does, she sings the hell out of the role!

:: imagines all the brooke-haters losing hours and hours of sleep over this ::
This is ackward. If she is only staying through the end of January, why spend all this money?
EDIT: THAT THEY DONT HAVE!

Yay! I can't wait! Another WONDERFUL TOWN disc to add to the shelf! And with Brookie! This is a good day.
Now, why didn't we get one when she did Cabaret???
This is rather stupid. There's already a cast recording of this revival out there, why do another one? Other than some of the cast changes, it'll probably sound exactly the same. Have there ever been two cast recordings made of the same Broadway production? (Kiss of the Spider Woman doesn't count, because the original cast recording is tri-national.)
Seems like a waste of money, if you ask me.
as bad as people claim brooke is on the grease cd she was 1000 times better than her predecessor in the role
Edit: i mean as opposed to rosie as rizzo befor the donna murphy fans skin me alive

I don't understand all the bru-ha-ha over this. If you don't want to buy it, then don't. But let them make another CD for those who want both copies, or those who *gasp* prefer Brooke over Donna in the role.
maybe they'll go for the record of the most recordings made for a single production of a Broadway show and record a third one when Reba takes over... yay!

Save your money and buy either the original Rosalind Russell recordings (Broadway and television) or the studio cast with Rebecca Luker, Karen Mason and Ron Raines, the most comprehensive and complete recording on the market. Skip the Simon Rattle version--even Audra McDonald couldn't compel me to listen to this frenetically-conducted mess again.
I had a feeling when Brooke signed on that this would happen. I'm ok with I guess, I don't see myself buying it though. I just don't get why they are putting so much money into a show that I don't see lasting much longer. I love the show but this just seems a little much.
My main question concerning all this is:
Is Brooke Shields REALLY that popular with the Broadway CD-buying public? I don't get how this is ever going to turn a significant profit.
