Broadwayunderstudies has him listed as out for both shows tomorrow. I have never seen the show so I don't know if I will lose much of the "original cast" experience if I go and he is not there. I would rather see him in the role since he is nominated, but my friend won't be in town beyond tomorrow...
Should I wait?
I say go see it anyway.
Bobby is great in the role (he has grown immeasurably since the first preview) but I'm sure Michael is wonderful as well. I've heard he has a totally different take on the role but is very, very good.
Honestly, the material is so fantastic so it's hard for me to say pass it up. And you'll get to see Alice's brilliant, future Tony-winning performance which doesn't hurt.
Yeah. Even if his understudy (sorry I can't think of his name right now) isn't AS good as Bobby since he doesn't go on that often and since this is his first time performing the role on Broadway (right?), the show itself and other performances are still worth it. Plus, you might want to go back a second time after you see it tomorrow and you'll get to see Bobby anyway. If Alice or Aaron were out, on the other hand, I probably wouldn't want to see the show though, especially if it was my first time. No offense to the other performers.
I wonder what his chemistry is like with Alice in the rest of the cast.
Well waking up early is not something I enjoy doing, and since that is the only way to get rush tickets, I would rather get the biggest bang for my buck by going only once just to be safe.
Plus if I hate the show and then J. Robert Spencer wins the Tony... haha these are the scenarios I play out in my head.
He won't win the Tony.
I know, but I never rule out hypotheticals. But I have had understudies completely ruin a performance for me (Emily Hsu in Spamalot; whoever understudied The Drowsy Chaperone), so I just wanted to know if anyone had seen this understudy/if J. Robert is worth missing.
Guess I will give it a go, thanks!
If you know him well enough to call him Bobby, wait.
I'd jump at the chance! He might be wonderful....and we have no idea how many opportunities there will be to catch his performance!

Just got back from seeing N2N's matinee. I had never seen the show before nor really listened to any of the tracks from the show. Michael Berry, as well all know, went on for "Dan" He was wonderful. Going in, having no bias and really no knowledge of the way the character is supposed to be portrayed, I thought he was especially touching and had a great set of pipes. He even looks more like Aaron Tveit, than J Robert Spencer. Although I didn't really think the show was "out of this world" or uber unique, I thought everyone in the cast gave incredible performances. Like, seriously. Everyone was damn good! I definitely left the theater feeling moved and enjoyed. My two favorites in the cast were Michael Berry and Louis Hobson (amazing acting and impeccable voice.) I also think that at times, Aaron is too good to be true. Talent and looks? Ugh.

Which is pretty much the point of his character. Glad you liked it! Interesting that Louis Hobson struck you as a stand-out.

Felm_heart... oops. I wasn't referring to his character in that statement. I should have made that clear. I just mean in general... Aaron Tveit is too good to be true. Lol.
Sometimes understudies can be just as good or maybe better
We saw Victor Victoria when Andrews was out. Her US was Anne Runalfdson. Having seen Andrews on the DVD, Runalfson was just as good as Andrews.

I didn't see her in this, but she sang at a symphony concert here and she sang Le Jazz Hot as one of the songs... I really enjoyed her a lot!

Definitely NOT the case with LBB's frequent understudy in Legally Blonde, but definitely the case with Mr. Berry in N2N. He was a delight!
I saw Hair and an understudy was in for Cassie Levy(?) the character was Sheila, right? Anyway, she was great and I didn't feel I missed out.
excuse my ignorance, but there is a web site that lists upcoming stand-ins??

I saw the matinee today as well...had gotten these tix for Mother's day a while back, so didn't know JRS would be out, but thought Michael was excellent. It was my first time at the show - so, can't compare - but thought the chemistry between Alice and he was very moving. All the women around me were sobbing at the end of Act I.
Okay, and inside I was a little, too..
