yeah ...defyingpopular...i agree...and i happened to see Jason Alexander and Martin Short who are amazing performers in "the producers" and some people go..."oh...the show is good only with Lane and Broderick" i think it's BS ...it is a bad show with anyone....i think Alexander was brilliant...and so was Short...but the show i hated!

I have to also go with the Phantom of the Opera. I was so convinced that I had to like this show. But I have never been more bored in a theater before in my life.

The Producers was similiar but I saw it before the hype. I saw it in previews and thought it was just ok. Then the reviews and Tony's came and I found myself wondering if I had seen the same show!

Back in 2001 I was really looking forward to seeing Thou Shalt Not. It seemed like a really cool premise and the cast and creative team were top notch. I mean Craig Bierko, Kate Levering, Norbert Leo Butz, and Debra Monk as stars with Stroman directing(right after The Producers) and Harry Connick Jr. penning the music--it seemed like a hit! I even read the Zola novel Therese Raquin that it was based on. However....when I finally saw the show I was totally disappointed. It was dull, the music unmemorable, and the audience was laughing at spots where it was supposed to be serious....ugh! Norbert was great though....

I had a different experience with The Producers than most people. I went in holding a huge grudge against the show, and it won me over completely. It's not a perfect show, but for me, it was thoroughly entertaining.
