STUPID QUESTION ALERT!
Is Edelwise(Sp?) from The Sound of Music a baritone or tenor song?
mizzie, it is a song that could be sung either; but more easily by a baritone.

As a baritone, I would just like to say that songs with G's are most certainly not in the normal baritone range. I can sustain an F at best.
I think Being Alive and Marry Me a Little are good Baritone songs from Company.
Mandy calls himself a tenor, but George's part doesnt really go up all that high. The wierd thing about Mandy is that he makes low notes sound like they are high.
Ray Bolger brought the house down every night with "Once In Love with Amy" from WHERE'S CHARLEY? Even led the audience with a sing-a-long of the song t the end of each show!

"you should be loved" from side show AWSOME SONG!!!!!!
"STUPID QUESTION ALERT!"
Very clicé, but the only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked.
I too thought that was true at one time, however, after several recent experiences I can say in all honesty- THERE ARE STUPID QUESTIONS!!!!! However, that question was not a stupid one. But remember THERE ARE STUPID QUESTIONS.
ok I'm done.
"Loves Changes Everything"?! That song has a high B flat at the end! That note is tough for TENOR to pull off, never mind a baritone!
I am considered and consider myself a light baritone and I can hit a High Bb...
I can sing a high B down to an E above the lowest C on a keyboard and I'd say I was a bari-tenor.
Some good songs for that range:
Bui-Doi
If I Can't Love Her
Being Alive
What You Own (with some adaptation...)
Purpose
Johanna
All The Wasted Time
Hope they help!

I don't think I saw "If Ever I Would Leave You" from Camelot anywhere on this list.
Many people seem confused on what a "baritone" is. For those people: baritones are different from tenors.
And it's not only about notes...it's about coloring and natural placement of the voice.
If any baritone really wishes to work on Broadway, they'd best have a G that they can sustain.

And that is a sad, sad story for me. Although I am only 15.
Anyone know how high "Being Alive" gets to?

Hal Leonard - First Book of Broadway Solos (Baritone/Bass) Book & CD
This is the perfect first collection for many voice students, whether they are teens or college singers or adults. Joan Boytim has selected songs appropriate for each voice type, and has chosen keys that suit the vocal needs of novice singers studying in traditional, generally classical lyric singing. The editions of the songs in these collections are short and straight-forward. Teachers have found these books invaluable. To make the collections even more useful, each volume is offered in a book/companion CD edition with piano accompaniments recorded by pianist Laura Ward.

Being Alive is an F or a G.
PramsAclams: Baritones are different from tenors but few people actually fit into the classic ranges of these arbitrary voices. So people listing songs that may be slightly out of range for a traditional 'baritone' voice may still be useful.
The fina 'Be-' in BEING ALIVE is, I believe, an A flat...at least in its original key.
MarkCohen...YOU'RE ONLY FIFTEEN!!! Your voice is still adjusting and, with excellent training and time, you will certainly be able to hit a G. But give it time and take care of your voice!
robbiej you are probs totally correct, i think my memory of the song is a bit vague. A flat sound much more like it!
There are sheet music versions in lower keys (and I believe Boyd Gaines sang it a third lower), so your memory may not be all that vague!

Haha thanks for the encouragement. I do need to take care of that whole voice training thing though ^^. I think bernadette sings it lower then because I could sing it fine, and I can only get an Ab if its really short. I love that song though.
Being ALive is a great song. It's perfect for demostrating vocal technical skill as well as performance and acting ability.
MarkCohen: (love the screename btw - my ideal role!) Find yourself a good teacher, one you feel comfortable with and who'll let you work on stuff you like but not indulge you in material that won't push you. Make sure they know what they're teaching because cruddy teaching will screw-up your voice. If you're going to try to 'belt' notes at the top of your range, make sure you know how to do it safely before you go for it, else you'll end up with nodules on your vocal folds.... Sorry if you know all that!
