Hey everyone,
My professor at college asked me to find him Two or three Showstopping songs for his upcoming vocal recital.. I am kinda the Broadway expert at our small school... So I thought I would see what everyone else came up with.. Anyone care to help???
Old man river
Stars
Impossible Dream
He asked for no Les Miserables and he already does one from Is there Really Life After High School..
"Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'"
And how can we forget:
"Some Enchanted Evening"
I don't know "Is there Really Life After High School".

"Soliloquy" from Carousel
The sheet music I have to "Ol' Man River" goes up to a G. Is that still considered baritone territory, or is that tenor? hehe

Old Man River is a true baritone piece. Very often confused with bass.
Classic: 'This Nearly Was Mine' from South Pacific...best song in the score.
More recent: 'The Day After That' from Kiss of the Spiderwoman. Thrilling.
Uptemp: 'Come Back to Me' from On A Clear Day...
In loving memory of the great Howard Keel, I submit
"Make Belive" from Showboat
"Bless Your Beautiful Hide" and "Sobbin' Women" from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
"My Defenses Are Down" from Annie Get Your Gun
"Where Is the Life That Late I Led?" from Kiss Me Kate

"If I Can't Love Her" from Beauty and the Beast
"Proud Lady" from "The Baker's Wife"
If that isn't a barn-burner, I don't know what it!
I do believe that it goes up to a G.
It's that bari-tenor range that's so popular now.

I second "If I Can't Love Her"
I'm not sure if this is a tenor or barintone piece, but "What Kind Of Fool Am I?". from "Stop The World, I Want To Get Off".

"Proud Lady" is a great baritone piece....you can show off your comedic skills as well as your range (it does go up to a G at the end).
"Her Face" from CARNIVAL.

"Wonder of Wonders" from Fiddler
"Music of the Night" (although it goes up to a Gb or Ab)
STUPID QUESTION ALERT!
Is Edelwise(Sp?) from The Sound of Music a baritone or tenor song?
"Oh What A Beautiful Mornin'" - Oklahoma!
"Impossible Dream" - Man of La Mancha
I'm not sure if this is exactly a show stopper, but it is a very beautiful song: "If I Can't Love Her" from Beauty and the Beast.

I'd consider If I Cant Love Her a Showstopper.
How about 'Make Them Hear You' from Ragtime?

For a more pop feel - and definitely a show stopper ( drew regular standing ovations during the show's run) --
ONCE BEFORE I GO ( The Boy from Oz)!
"Finishing the Hat" Sunday in the Park...
I could be wrong, but I believe "Finishing the Hat" is a tenor song. Mandy Patinkin is a tenor, is he not?
Are there any showstopping bass songs?

definitely make them hear you from ragtime... absolutely incredible

"I AM WHAT I AM" from La Cage Aux Folles
Mandy Patinkin is more of a lyric baritone, or bari-tenor, if you will.
