TOMMY (from YEARS ago) Legally Blonde (I had a blast!) Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
No doubt about it, Passing Strange. My friend & I decided at the last minute to get tickets during our last trip to NYC (June). We were absolutely blown away. It was hands down my friend's favorite theater experience of all time (and one of my favorites). We couldn't stop talking about it afterwards, and we still talk about it. It was just indescribable--one of those "ah-yeah-this-is-what-theater-can-be" moments that only come around every once in awhile. And now that it's gone, we say to each other "wow, we were really there, and we almost missed it!!"
OMG. How could I forget...also...haha. this is so weird.
When I went on a music festival with my high school orchestra a few years ago to Boston, we made plans to see The Blue Man Group there. I had utterly low expectations....and it was definitely the most exciting, interesting, and involved theatre experience I have ever had. It was hands down my favorite time at a show, ever.
I went to see Spring Awakening because of the song "Bitch of Living" being on youtube. I thought that the rest of the show could not be as good as that one song. After seeing it one time, I thought the show was ok, but not as good as that song.
Well, when people visited me in NYC, they wanted to see it, and each time I saw the show I liked it more and more, and then buying the cd made me really fall in love with the music.
A Chorus Line - I literally bought tickets to a 1997 national tour just because I had heard so much about it, though it didn't seem interesting to me. I thought it was going to be a tacky dance show. What a surprise!
Avenue Q - Did not interest me, but I saw it as part of a season subscription. Ended up being the best show I've seen in years.
Recreation of original John Cameron orchestration to "On My Own" by yours truly. Click player below to hear.
a few years before I moved to NYC, I was in town for one night (one night only, one night, one night, one night only!!!). I wanted to see a Broadway show and so I went to TKTS. The only Broadway show they had on the boards was Once On This Island. It was either see that or sit in my closet at the Mildew Plaza. I saw the show and loved it. It was so creative and La Chanze was amazing.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
Mary Poppins - Not exactly any hype, but my friend had an extra ticket, and I loved it.
Speech and Debate - I just went on a whim, and didn't really expect anything special. Oh, my God, I was wrong. It still stands as the best show I've ever seen.
I would have to say Xanadu. I saw it to see what all the fuss was about, and walked out VERY happy. However, as I learned from personal experience. This show isn't as good the second time around.
"If you try to shag my husband while I am still alive, I will shove the art of motorcycle maintenance up your rancid little Cu**. That's a good dear"
Tom Stoppard's Rock N Roll
I only went and saw the First National tour because I got free tickets from a friend of my mom's. Though my passion for the show is no longer anywhere near that level, and never even reached the level that so many of the Rent-heads reached back during the day, I was won over by that production.
The Drowsy Chaperone! I had a friend who saw it and hated it, so I wanted to see WHY she hated it so much. I ended up absolutely LOVING it. It's my favorite show now!
