re: Show to see with daughter

i say piazza! mamma mia is very suggestive, so it might not exactly be appropriate for a 9 year old. piazza is the PERFECT mother daughter musical.

re: Show to see with daughter

Light in the Piazza is a perfect story for a mother/daughter... the story centralizes partially around a mother/daughter relationship. From what you mentioned, I think she would enjoy Piazza... I love the same musicals as you mentioned she likes, so I hope you look into it!

re: Show to see with daughter

The Producers, RENT and DRS all have very strong adult themes. I really wouldn't take a nine-year-old to see them.

I wouldn't say Selling Bee, I think families make the mistake of taking kids to it. I mean I wouldn't call a song called "My Unfortunate Erection" (MUE Chip's Lament) Acceptable for kids.

Sweet Charity isn't porvocative, so that is a great choice. She'll love the humor, but Piazza is great but very muture at the same time.

re: Show to see with daughter

Why are some of you mentioning Rent, DRS, and Piazza.

They are adult shows. Though Piazza dosen't have much sexuality, besides the act 1 finale. And the story would be quite hard to understand for a 9 year old. Telecharge only reccomends Piazza for 13 and older.

DRS usually gets a very mature audience. I would NEVER take a 9 year old to that.

Telecharge reccomends CHARITY for 4 years old and older. So, that shows it's a family show.

Tick, tick, BOOM, if you can find it. You probably can't, though...

re: Show to see with daughter

One thing about "Bee"..my unfortunate erection (I didn't even realize that was the name of the song) would go over her head...I really think she would like this show..and Piazza is much more adult in its themes, though lovely.

re: Show to see with daughter

definately take her to ALL SHOOK UP its perfect for all ages! i know when i went the 1st time w/ my parents we were all cracking up! it's a good laugh to share with family

I HIGHLY SUGGEST ALL SHOOK UP

re: Show to see with daughter

I agree with her thoughts on the music of Chitty. I haven't seen the show either for that same reason.
Mamma Mia is a fun show, with great classic tunes, and I'm sure that any young girl can appreciate the situation. It is also one of the most popular musicals in world history, and for good reason.

re: Show to see with daughter

If she's not interested in Chitty, I'd say Mamma Mia or All Shook Up

re: Show to see with daughter

Hmmmmm

my choices and why:

All Shook Up: If you like Hairspray..you'll like this one plus is AWESOME

Light In The Piazza: like others have said...if she liked phantom..she might like this one.

Mamma Mia!: Don't care much for...but its good

The Producers: It's fine really...she's probably going to want to see the movie when it comes out so you could just take her to see that.

Sweet Charity: Its cool..yeah the stuff will be over her head...she probably won't remember it though.

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG: THIS IS A AWESOME SHOW...I'm one of the few people who will say that at first I was like ..I'll watch the movie...but the show..it 1000 times better in my opinion...and like they say in a the library.."DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER"...plus you might miss out on something that you might never get to see again...like the flying car.

I'd like to add my vote to MAMMA MIA. I think you will both really enjoy it, since it has the feeling of a great fun party !

re: Show to see with daughter

What! Don't consider THE PRODUCERS at all.

My God, no. Not for a 9 year old. I am 16, and felt uncomfortable during some parts with my parents next to me.

re: Show to see with daughter

Are u Joking....I went to see The Producers with my parents and I didn't feel uncomfortable at all...the only show I felt uncomfortable watching with my parents was RENT (Which we all LOVED).

The Producers for some reason even though it has all those jokes seems...sorta "Classic"..at least in style. I saw little children at the show as well to me its not as bad as bringing children to see GREASE..which isn't a childrens show..but parents bring them to it anyway.

re: Show to see with daughter

The Producers is definately NOT a children's show, profanity aside.

"Where is she? Clinchmepinchme, yankmespankme, suckmefuc- oh here she is!"

"It's called an erection."

"Who do you have to f*ck to get a break in this town?"

PIAZZA would be a deadly, static bore for a nine-year old. BEE, SWEET CHARITY, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, THE PRODUCERS and HAIRSPRAY are adult shows and inappropriate for children. ALL SHOOK UP and MAMMA MIA are questionable entertainments whose target audiences are aging and undiscriminating baby-boomers. If she responds to POTO, take your daughter to that and THE LION KING, still the most inventive and stunning production on Broadway.

re: Show to see with daughter

Thanks everyone! Well, we've decided on Charity (Mama Mia and Piazza came in a close second). I'm certain that any adult themes will go right over her head. By the way, I've seen The Producers and DRS and wouldn't feel comfortable taking her to those shows...just my opinion. I do appreciate all of the input!

I think you'll be fine, and that's probably the best choice for her given what you've said. Have fun, and thanks for bringing a new generation to Broadway.

re: Show to see with daughter

i really enjoyed charity, while some of the choreography is a little strange, some of the numbers were great(i loved there's gotta be something better than this)

i think it's a good choice(my 10 year old sister seemed to enjoy it, and she's also a big musical fan, though her favorite musical i think is producers, which is very different from POTO)
but still, i think she'll enjoy it
hope you both like the show
oy with the poodles already!

She liked POTO though. I saw POTO for the first time in my 20s and it was a deadly static bore for me. :)
