"ITS THE DAY OF THE SHOW YA'LL!!"-Bwaynerd
Although this does expose the shameful fact that I'm not big on classic musicals. I've got to have missed a few faves/pet hates but this is just from a quick browse of my shelves and iTunes.
HATE - "Murder, Murder", from JEKYLL AND HYDE (oh god the LYRICS!) - "Solidarity", from BILLY ELLIOT (most repetitive number in a boring score) - "Fortune Favours The Brave", from AIDA (this is just all over the place; the song's supposed to establish Radames' character and it's just a screamy shoutfest with weird rambly lyrics) - "Dog Eat Dog", from LES MISERABLES (hate the old orchestration, none of the Thenardiers I've seen or heard can make sense of the melody, just irritating) - "Barbara", from STARTING HERE STARTING NOW (please don't even track down this song if you haven't heard it, it's awful) - "Where Will You Stand When The Flood Comes", from PARADE (it's just too messy in a score that normally gets its ensemble numbers right, it drags the whole thing down) - "Miss Baltimore Crabs", from HAIRSPRAY (stupid Brit moment here but WHY BALTIMORE CRABS? THIS SONG MAKES NO SENSE TO ME) "Where Did We Go Wrong?", from THE ADDAMS FAMILY (where is the tune?) - "Something Just Broke", from ASSASSINS (it ruins the show if included) - "Your Eyes", from RENT (does ANYONE like this song? It's the worst in the score and so ironic because of it) - "A Sentimental Man", from WICKED (yaaaaaawn) - "We've Got Girls", from GLORY DAYS (it's hard to pick a nadir from this show, which is a shame as "Open Road" is a nice, if predictable, song)
LOVE - "Song of Forgetting", from NEXT TO NORMAL (beautiful and poignant) - "Wild Grass", from KRISTINA (this is such a weird song to love) - "Nobody's Side", from CHESS (searing lyrics, brilliant melody) - "Colour and Light", from SUNDAY... (I am a little bit obsessed with the pointillist synth in George's sections of this song) - "Rainbow High", from EVITA (a belter of a number) - "The Shadows Lengthen", from ELISABETH (the height of European popera cheese.) - "Goodbye Until Tomorrow", from THE LAST FIVE YEARS (heartbreakingly happy, and the piano line on "finally yes, finally now" is another weird orchestration obsession of mine) - "Four Jews In A Room Bitching", from FALSETTOS (awesome opening) - "And Eve Was Weak", from CARRIE (MY FACE. LET ME BELT IT OFF.) - "Mozart, Mozart", from MOZART (I can't even explain why I love this song) - "Rebecca", from REBECCA (another massive angsty beltfest) - "Curiosity", from SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE (so simple, so beautiful, in a score filled with LaChiusa's usual complicated melodies) - "The Colours of Paradise", from THE SPITFIRE GRILL (I love how this song just conjures up the small town vibe) - "I Love You For All Time", from ROOMS (awesome rock) - "The Apple Doesn't Fall", from THE RINK (it makes me laugh) - "Fable", from THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA (so beautiful) "Made of Stone", from THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (angsty beltfest, but for a bloke!) - "Who I'd Be", from SHREK (maybe it's not cool to love this song but I think it's really wonderful, save the rubbish electric guitar as Fiona comes in at the end) - "A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste", from WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND (I secretly think Jim Steinman wrote this song and not ALW) - "He Lives In You", from THE LION KING (I've lost all street cred now) - "One White Dress", from A CATERED AFFAIR (it's so perfect for Janie's character, and so light and fluffy)
WEIRD RANDOM LOVE THAT I SHOULD PROBABLY BE EMBARRASSED ABOUT
- "The Last Real Record Store On Earth", from HIGH FIDELITY. I absolutely LOVE this song.
DeNada, I don't think Solidarity is a very good song on its own, but he staging really elevates it.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

"Miss Baltimore Crabs", from HAIRSPRAY (stupid Brit moment here but WHY BALTIMORE CRABS? THIS SONG MAKES NO SENSE TO ME)
This is my least favorite song from the show. Wittman and Shaiman went through so many different songs for Velma, and I don't really think they're 100% satisfied with it either. The reason she's given the title "Miss Baltimore Crabs" is for two reasons: (1) Baltimore is known for its sea crabs. (2) It's a play on words; "crabs," meaning she contracted crab-lice from "screwing the judges" (or vise versa).
Hate- Miss Baltimore Crabs as well... I dreamed a Dance from Next To Normal Every Song but Pulled/Crazier than you from the Addams Family Donkey Pot Pie from Shrek
