Shows for the 2005-2006 Season (Bye Bye Birdie, Jersey Boys, Princesses)

Well, I just got the Telecharge.com Broadway Spotlight E-mail, and at the bottom it read:

ALSO COMING SOON...

BYE BYE BIRDIE - The 1961 Tony®-winning Best Musical is coming to Broadway later this year in a rockin' and rollin' new revival.

JERSEY BOYS - This new musical is based on the life story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and features the hit songs "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," and "Oh What a Night."

PRINCESSES - This new musical takes place at a very exclusive private girls' school in Manhattan, where the hip teenagers have no interest in putting on a show until America's hottest action star is hired to direct the school musical.

BBB! YAY!
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

I really hope we get some news on the Birdie Revival!

With some revision and some updating, this Revival can blow away All Shook Up & Good Vibrations.

Revivals also of A CHORUS LINE and PETER PAN.

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

Hey. BBB has NEVER been revived on Broadway. It deserves to come back! Plus, it was an extremely groundbreaking Musical for the early 60's. It started the "Rock & Roll" Musical Theme.

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

Wasn't "West Side Story" also gonna be revived next year? Or did I make that up myself in some unconcious state?

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

Friends who've seen Jersey Boys in La Jolla say only good things about it. Especially the guy who plays Frankie Valli - can't recall his name.
Faced with these Loreleis, what man can moralize!

Theres a Peter Pan revival?! With who?

Cant wait for Bye Bye Birdie and of course A CHORUS LINE!!! AHHHHH! :)

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

it was supposed to come back. It was going to be the Kennedy Centers first stop before broadway but, they brought the production to City Center and that killed it. Also, I think the Weisslers now hold the rights.

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

Another production of BYE BYE BIRDIE... just what we all needed... oh, and PETER PAN to cap it all off .. fabulous... with that "delightful" Cathy Rigby..

Note: This post contained numerous uses of sarcasim. We do not need another proudction of BIRDIE and PETER PAN is bad. Cathy Rigby ruins whatever she's in (i.e. Seussical)

ANOTHER production of BBB? Broadway has not seen a production of Birdie since 1961.

It's about time Broadway sees BBB again.

"Cathy Rigby ruins whatever she's in (i.e. Seussical)"

EXCUSE ME??? Cathy SAVED Seussical! Her National Tour DRAMATICALLY improved the show!!! How could you say she RUINED it??

As for PETER PAN, yes, I know, everyone is sick of revivals. Just be satisfied that this is the last one. Her Farewell. The show probably won't be back for decades.

Go see PETER PAN one last time, you won't be seeing it for a LONG LONG time.

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

I just hope if BBB is done , they get a new director. One with a creative mind who can make it a grand production rather then the high school one which was performed at City Center for $100 I am still longing to have back.

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

Firstly, BBB is one of the most OVERDONE shows in the history of musical thetare this being regional and amateur productions. I don't want to see another production.. period.

In response to this:
"Cathy Rigby ruins whatever she's in (i.e. Seussical)"

-Okay... CATHY didn't save that tour.. the creators did.. they improved it but she still brought it down. Second, I don't care about a Peter Pan revival and I won't miss it.

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

aces - that's fine. You don't have to see it, that's your decision.

However, you cannot say that Cathy Rigby RUINED Peter Pan nor Seussical. She SAVED Seussical. She REVIVED Peter Pan. She REVIVED Peter Pan again. And again. And again. And again. But she did NOT ruin anything!

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

If BBB does come back. It will go through some major revisions. It won't be the same overdone show you see at the local High School & Community Theater. It will be nice to a full Professional Production.

I hope they include the new songs from the 95 Movie Remake

-Let's Settle Down
-Bye Bye Birdie (Ursula & girls in Soda Shop)
-What Did I Ever See in Her?
-A Mother Doesn't Matter Anymore
-A Giant Step

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

CapnHook - Okay, it's because she produces Peter Pan herself.. And she was BAD as the Cat.. Ahrens & Flathery SAVED seussical by reviving the book.. she did nothing

re: Shows for the 2005-2006 Season

aces - that's fine, she did nothing. My point is she didn't ruin anything, as you first claimed.

And so what? She produces PETER PAN with her husband? She has for over a decade. It shows she has faith and dedication in a show - something that producers not always have. She believes in it 100%.
