There are so many. Some may not necessarily have built are larger audiences, but in my opinion, they are great shows that didn't deserve to close (not taking into account any economic factors). Here are a few (on and off-Broadway):

Last Five Years
Assassins
Jane Eyre
There are more, but it's much too early for me to be able to think of them.

It's no fun to only have the same things playing. It's kind of like going to the movies and them always showing the same things.
