Camelot - I'm doing a production now and people are very polite and generous when they see it, but everyone can't understand why the company decided to put THIS show on. That's another matter but the show itself is quite awful, even though some hail it as a "classic". Stail script, so-so songs, awful and forced segues into songs, and just a bad show altogether.
The current Sweeney is great but I think that it should never be revived again. Its not going to get any better than this so it would be pointless.
Also I think most of the Disney shows would be pointless for revivals.
As much as I loved it...Little Shop of Horrors.
This is stupid. So no one should EVER revive these shows? There have been quite a few succesful productions of shows that people have thought shouldn't be revived. Declaring a show should not be revived is pretty closed minded. With new concepts, different casts, fresh direction... a show you thought was stale might turn out to be quite wonderful. That's what is fab about live theater.

I think the same, in a few years these great shows should get a revival.
Dec 3, 1960 - Jan 5, 1963 Musical / Original Majestic Theatre, NY, USA
#2 Jul 8, 1980 - Aug 23, 1980 Musical / Revival New York State Theatre, NY, USA
#3 Nov 15, 1981 - Jan 2, 1982 Musical / Revival Winter Garden Theatre, NY, USA
#4 Jun 21, 1993 - Aug 7, 1993 Musical / Revival George Gershwin Theatre, NY, USA
Other than the original production, I can't say the show has done very well with audiences. The show is hopelessly dated, and not just because it opened in 1960, yadayadayada.
I don't know why you're on the CAMELOT warpath, but it's a charming, moving show with a fantastic score.
Yes, perhaps it's a little too long and perhaps it needs some tightening, but it's generally well-written. Perhaps you're just having a bad experience with it.
And did you ever think that the failed productions below were just horrible productions?
cats.

All the high budget musicals that proved to be flops. I am sure their producers wouldn't even think of reviving them:)
I could not disagree more about CATS.
Funny enough, Cats is one of the most likely shows to get a revival, and I think soon.
How is CAMELOT dated? Does every show taking place in a different time period have to be dated?
BAREFOOT IN THE PARK is a child of the 60's...the romance and the passion in CAMELOT seems to me timeless.
I just got a really funny image of a bunch of monochromatic cats running around playing instruments on stage. Jellicles can and jellicles do.....

so seriously... i brought it up in a post a while back... but what's wrong with a show being dated... don't almost all shows eventually become dated? is that a bad thing?? does everything need to be contemporized (besides orchestrations because I love new orchestrations and stuff)...

I mean, I really hated Cats (for example) but I wouldn't say it should never be revived because a revival of it could possibly make me love it. I think there are a lot of shows that shouldn't be revived for a couple years yet (because there was a recent production of it or the climate feels wrong or for whatever reason), but I would NEVER say a show should never be revived. I mean, that's the real cool thing about theatre. You can, uh... revive it.

Jesus Christ Superstar. Unless Ted Neeley's playing Christ. And it resembles the AD tour.
