Shows that will NOT get revived

Posted: 6/20/04 at 4:54pmThe Sunday in the Park concert you are referring to is part of the Ravinia festival in Chicago. They are doing a Sondheim show every year for five years, I think. They have already done Sweeney (which went on to Carnegie Hall) and Night Music. I saw them do Passion last year and it was wonderful. Sondheim gave a pre-concert live interview with Q&A and took a bow after the concert. I'm looking forward to Sunday.

As a curiosity, now there is a new musical version of "gone with the wind" made with a lot of money and with a lot of success. To me is just HORRIBLE. Is available on dvd if anyone wants to suffer.
To me the show that must NOT be revived it's BY JEEVES...

Posted: 6/22/04 at 5:46pmAlso-I love Avenue Q but you can't really make a revival. Some shows are timeless but Avenue Q is too...for now. Even if they formatted it, it could never be as funny in 20 years.

Jerry Herman has been making major revisions to Mack & Mabel and has said in interviews that it'll definitely be back on Broadway either next season or the season after (depending on when the Mame revival happens).
Irish Rep is currently looking at smaller Broadway venues for its current production of "Finian's Rainbow" that's gotten raves and been extended a couple of times.
"Little Me" is TOTALLY dependent on a star comic wanting to do it since it's such a great part. We'll see it again if a major comedic actor with musical chops (a Jim Carrey, a Nathan Lane) wants to revive it.
I doubt we'll see "Fosse" again -- one of the reason the producers and creative team allowed it to be filmed for television was that it probably unrevivable -- huge cast, huge running costs and other than Ann Reinking, who would be able to stage it again? (similar to "Jerome Robbins' Broadway" -- it would be very difficult to reassemble without the man himself being there, or barring that, the next best thing: Gwen Verdon, who's unforunately gone now, and is the reason half of those dances could be recreated).

Posted: 6/25/04 at 1:46pmViolet ran Off-Broadway, but it got some good reviews and won some awards. It may not get a Broadway production, but it has already shown signs of life in regional and amateur productions nationally.

Margo and TripleStar -
Little Me was recently revived (1998-1999) starring Martin Short and Faith Prince.
Also, 1776 was recently done (97-9
with Brent Spiner.

Posted: 6/25/04 at 2:20pmi can just imagine the response i may get to this, but i recently saw the taped version of the original broadway cast of "sunday in the park with george", and i could see kristen chenoweth in the bernadette role.

Posted: 6/25/04 at 3:35pmShe Loves Me and Finian's Rainbow both have received revivals in the past. If Finian returns, it will be the second revival.
#96re: Shows that will NOT get revived
Posted: 6/25/04 at 5:21pmI could definitely see "110 in the Shade" coming back. It's being done this month at the Pasadena Playhouse with Marin Mazzie.

Shogu, the Musical. The only noteable thing about the show was it was the first Broadway musical to have a song all about dildos.
Moose Murders
Harold and Maude
Bring Back Birdie
