Posted: 6/18/04 at 9:50pmAlso, I know there's been a lot of talk about reviving Chess...and while I would love for it to happen, I don't see it being revived any time soon. They'd have to do some MAJOR work on it.

Posted: 6/18/04 at 9:53pmAnnie Warbucks never made it to Broadway. It got fairly mediocre reviews and ran a few months off-Broadway in the early 90's. The creative team (the same folks who put together the original "Annie") spent years reworking the material and producing various versions of it around the country, but never seemed to get it right.

Posted: 6/18/04 at 11:21pmI think all shows no matter how good or bad should get a second, third or even fourth time to shine. As we all know: great musicals are not written - they're rewritten, and all of these shows mentioned have the potential of becoming hits. And like it or not, CATS will be back! It should have never left. So stop complaining and grow up. If you don't wanna go see it, then don't go see it. But, don't wish ill upon something you do not understand.

Posted: 6/18/04 at 11:26pmI'm not sure I could ever see both parts of ANGELS IN AMERICA being revived. I would love to see them performed live, but that just seems like the kind of thing that just wouldn't happen anymore. I hope I'm wrong.

Sorry, this is a bit off-topic, but StickToPriest, I just finished listening to my Sweeney recording, and I noticed something. That line from A Little Priest you use for your signature is different on the OBCR. During the "Poet" line, instead of saying "stick to priest" Mrs. Lovett says "try the priest", and she says "stick to priest" later. Correct me if I'm wrong, because I usually am.

Posted: 6/19/04 at 12:02amAngels In America may never come back to commercial Broadway. The original run lost $1.4 million despite the Tonys and the Pulitzer -- union overtime for Broadway made the weekly running costs too expensive for the two three-and-a-half hour pieces to ever break even, though it eventually turned a profit on tour. I imagine we'll see it again in a limited engagement somewhere in the not-for-profit realm -- Lincoln Center, MTC, BAM, etc... could do it because of their large subscriber bases.

Musical sequels never work
Falsettos is the only exception

Posted: 6/19/04 at 4:37pmI don't think CONTACT, FOSSE, SWING will get revived. Also any DISNEY musical that is currently running......don't think a revival will happen for them!

I never knew that "All you need is faith and trust... and a little bit of pixie dust!"
That changes my whole outlook on life.

No, No, Nanette should be back on Broadway, with the 1970's Raoul Pene Du Bois sets and costumes and Donald Saddler's choreography it was pure joy.
I think we can live without Irene though.

Posted: 6/20/04 at 1:30pmIf HAPPY HUNTING (which possessed some of the most amateurish music and lyrics ever written for a Broadway show) ever get revived, it will surely mean that Broadway doesn't exist anymore. What can you say about lyrics that rhyme "...but the kitchen sink went" with "juvenile delinquent"?!
