Really, think about what you're suggesting here, a Broadway musical gets a transfer after being open a day? It may well happen, but i think no one is gonna no for a long time!

re: Shrek Gets West End Green Light

I think that the producers are going to focus on hoping that the ticket sales for the Broadway production go up before they even consider a West End transfer.

One of the free papers had a small piece on it with the producers saying they hoped for a west end transfer. I doubt they have any plans yet.

I remember reading a similar thing about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and sadly that's not made the leap across the pond yet re: Shrek Gets West End Green Light It's more a statement of hope rather than based in any kind of reality.

Though I loved the film, the idea of a stage version of Shrek doesn't excite me, even with Jeanine Tesori as composer. Maybe I'll wait for the cast album and see if it changes my mind....

re: Shrek Gets West End Green Light

I'm fairly neutral on Shrek - I enjoy Tesori's work (can we PLEASE get a new production of "Caroline, or Change" here?) but like Eastwickian, the idea of the musical transferring doesn't set my world on fire. I'd see it (whereas you'd have to pay me to see Blonde) but surely there must be something more interesting or exciting that could make it over instead...

And speaking of aborted transfers, have they announced what's following Buddy into the Duchess yet? I'm still holding out a small hope for Xanadu.

I don't have to name names here but a very dear friend of mine is one of the top wardrobe masters in the West End and has already been approached by the NY producers for Dec 2009. He goes to NY in January.

The reviews seem to be a lot more in favor for the show than most people expected.
i just wish people would stop referring it to a 'children's show'.

re: Shrek Gets West End Green Light

Its totally a family show, yes, but doest need to be branded that or anything else other than 'A Musical'. Children's shows/family shows I see as those presented currently by Disney.
Adults could get a lot more from this than kids under 12/14 could.

re: Shrek Gets West End Green Light

OK lets be serious peeps

Shrek probably is thinking about a West End opening (ala Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) but wanting one and it happening are 2 very different things.
As the original poster pointed out, Shrek has just had its press night, its barley out of previews in NY, its reviews have been mixed at best (with a few positives) and its sales are not great (except for thanks giving weekend which was kinda expected, its been in the 70s for its capacity)

Shrek has a long way to go to prove itself before they think of mounting another production.Money wise the show has over $20 million budget.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

I be happy to confirm if this is a 'family show' or 'childrens show' for you.

Just get me a return ticket to New York, 3 nights accomadation and a Shrek ticket, I give you a unbiased opinion.
