My friend just sent this to me on Facebook, and I personally have no idea as to why this is even being released...

Thoughts?

One last effort to make $ before they announce their closing the show

I mean, how would they make a profit off of this? They're putting a lot of money into publishing it, and people would much rather have the full version (or so I would think).
Could they possibly be adding some un-released tracks on?

I'm going to make the obvious "must be a blank CD then" joke before anyone else can.
And as for the disc itself? Inutil.
That's just another way to call a blank CD.
It's so that when tourists go up to buy the CD at the show they can say "$10" instead of "$20", and they will get the sale.
As stated before: money, money, money.
Are they kidding? Shrek has like 15 songs and the regular cd is only 20 dollars.
I dont see why anyone would buy this. Maybe they can trick tourist into buying both CDs.
It's probably going to have 5 or 6 songs on it and they'll sell it for half-price. That'll lure more people into buying the show recording.
Why not just sell the original recording for $10 anyway? That's how much a standard CD should cost.
It's not like a significant amount of people who buy the highlights version will then spring for the full CD anyway, especially after they put it in and play it.
Feb. 28 - Looped, Feb. 28 - Next to Normal, March 4 - Hair, March 11 - A Little Night Music, March 24 - Time Stands Still, April 6 - La Cage Aux Folles, April 10 - Anyone Can Whistle (City Center), April 10 - Looped, May 9 - Enron, May 15 - A Little Night Music, May 15 - A Behanding In Spokane, May 30 - A Behanding In Spokane, May 30 - A Little Night Music, June 20 - A Little Night Music, June 23 - Red, June 23 - Sondheim on Sondheim, July 13 - A Little Night Music, July 18 - The Grand Manner (Lincoln Center)
They always inflate the prices of merchandise within the theater. I say $15 would be a fair price.
I see it as a parent might want to buy that for their younger child who just saw the show. The parent knows that the kid won't listen to the whole cd, so the parent buys the cheaper CD with just the popular songs on it.
I'll never get why highlight CD's exist anyway. If you actually like the sound of a show, why wouldn't you buy the whole thing because if you like it...you're gonna be wondering what you're missing anyway.
They probably want to add "I'm A Believer" to the cd, but realize that people who already own it won't pay full price for another copy. So here is a cheaper version with an additional song.
Still a silly idea though.
Alright. Wal-mart posted the track listings on their website:
1. Overture/Big Bright Beautiful World
2. I Know It's Today
3. What's Up Duloc?
4. Who I'd Be
5. Morning Person
6. I Think I Got You Beat
7. Make A Move
8. When Words Fail
9. Freak Flag
10. I'm A Believer
I think these songs are actually really good, but I really don't like When Words Fail.
Really useless... I don't buy highlights CDs usually, but it looks like the shortest tracklist. It makes no sense anyway, but wouldn't it be smarter to release a single with I'm a Believer and a couple of live versions of the best songs if the point is making money out of something new?

Surprised Build A Wall isn't on there as opposed to When Words Fail.

*Bump*
So it comes out today...
Was anybody crazy enough to buy it? I'm very curious to hear if they've fixed the Who I'd Be glitch and added in the dance break to Morning Person (it was originally recorded, but later edited out.)
I want to hear "I'm a Believer". I guess it's cool that they recorded it, but the highlights CD idea still doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I agree that it should have been a single.
Has anyone heard it yet? Is it worth the $1.29?
I liked it.
Though Brian d'Arcy James could sing the phone book (or even Frank Wildhorn) and I'd probably love it.
Does anyone know if they actually added the "Morning Person" dance break for the highlights CD?
