Significant Other or The Flick?

Hello All,

For my next trip, I have one empty slot on Friday 8/7 evening, and I'm considering seeing either Significant Other or The Flick. What would you recommend more? Reading the reviews, I have concerns for both; the length for The Flick, and the seemingly unlikeable protagonist for Significant Other. Any other recommendations for that night? I was thinking to see Hamilton but the price is prohibitive (I'll wait a couple months; besides I saw it at the Public) or also Hedwig with Taye (I already saw it with NPH).

Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

FYI, the rest of the trip I will be seeing "Unknown Soldier" and "A Moon for the Misbegotten" at WTF on 8/8, "Catone in Utica" at Glimmerglass on 8/9, back to NYC to see "Penn & Teller" on 8/10 and "Written on Skin" on 8/11. Good variety of shows, hopefully! :)

I haven't seen Significant Others but I have seen the The Flick. The script is pretty good and it is a good show but personally for me I just didn't get into it. It's a very long show in a small and very hot theatre. And the seats are too small, and my legs didn't fit. I think that took me out of the production. But everything in the show seemed to drag on. If you want a very deep show that will make you think I would say go see it. But if you just want a fun night at the theatre I would personally see something else.

Significant Other! I loved that play. The dialogue feels natural and contemporary, the actors are wonderful, and I found it both funny and poignant. I didnt think the lead was unlikable at all. Gideon Glick did some amazing work. He's neurotic, socially awkward, but you feel for him. Outside of one climactic confrontation scene towards the end which I felt was misdirected, I had no complaints. I used HipTix to get some great seats and had a great time.

"The Flick" as the Times banner says, broke my heart. I loved it. And the production I saw was in May in Melbourne Australia!

I would go with Significant Other. I didn't find the protagonist to be unlikable so much as real and flawed. Of course everyone reacts differently, but I found it to be quite a moving piece - and funny, which breaks up some heaviness.

The Flick: Clyde is right. Seats are small and the theatre can be warm. Luckily, the night I went, someone in front of me complained so the house manager cranked up the A/C. Much more comfortable, but still cramped.

That said, it's an extraordinary work and Matthew Maher is fantastic!

Significant Other: Nice comfy seats, plenty of leg room, cold enough to hang meat. The play? Meh. Not bad, just nothing special.

You: Williamstown, Glimmerglass and (Off) Broadway...safe travels!

Don't know about The Flick, but my friends who have seen Significant Other all gave it glowing reviews.

Thank you all for the recommendations. I went with the majority and bought ticket for Significant Other. The fact that there is discount code for it sweetened the deal! Hopefully I'll enjoy it.
